Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

Thank you, @nettie434 . She is grey! A dark steel grey probably describes it. I hadn't seen many grey and white bicolour kitties before I got her, but recently one of my mum's care workers showed me pics of her boy and he's just like Daisy.

RumNotRun · 13/11/2023 20:10

@nettie434 my cat Vixen likes to "scarf" me and drape herself over my neck and shoulders. My colleagues have all "met" her on Teams calls. She is an exceptionally warm cat though so it gets a bit too much, plus with any tiny movement the spikes come out for her to hold on. At the moment I've got a reprieve as she's moved into the kitchen for a while, but I'm sure she'll be back being my scarf soon.

@RumNotRun
Hi, I saw your brilliant find and did reverse search and I think this might be it.
If it's a wedding chair, wonder what happened to the mate🤔
The 2 in the photo aren't quite the same, but very similar

Well, I wonder why MN thinks this photo is sensitive matter?

Thanks for looking but my chair is a sturdier, probably more every day use chair. From the searches I've done it could be a dining chair for the head of the table.

It is the same period probably as the house it came from (and my house) so I wonder whether it's been in that one since the chair was first purchased.

Frankie seems to become more affectionate at this time of year, he's been curled up on the sofa next to me over the last few days. He makes the cutest purring noise when he's sat up, it's like he has his base purr but then a higher pitched one that's almost like he's talking cause it goes up and down in tone as you stroke him. He also like to tap you if you haven't given his lordship enough attention.

Ooh, Daisy's grey and white combination is lovely @Catsmere.

I will tell my colleague that the correct verb is 'to scarf' @RumNotRun.

Sorry about the delivery problems @TheShellBeach. I wonder what would happen if customers could specify the delivery company. My heart sinks if I get a notification that Evri will be delivering an order.

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2023 09:09

As soon as we get the money back into our account I'm going to order from AO.

We love our Evri driver here in the village. It's the same man who comes each time. He's become a friend.

But I agree, Nettie - they're very hit and miss when you live in a city.

A regular driver sounds wonderful, Shell. Fingers crossed the refund gets sorted quickly.

Supersimkin2 · 14/11/2023 10:15

@Catsmere the sweetness of Daisy

All Lenny needs is an owl and some pea green paint, Grumpy.

Take some pix of the carving details on the chair. Meantime, Google ‘furniture pattern books’. Compare carving details till you get the right age of chair. Motifs came in and out of fashion so they might come up
twice but if my spider senses are right you might spot the chair itself in one of the Victorian books.

Sorry to interrupt the furniture/delivery chat but I bring news of an important Velvet development! This morning she showed off her skills by catching my dressing-gown cord, sitting on it so it couldn’t escape while gnawing on my wiggly toes (through three layers of blanket, she never attacks exposed limbs) and then her own tail caught her eye! Abandoning cord and toes, she chased it until she caught… her own back leg, which she bit actually quite hard. She’s now snurring while lying on the captive cord.

Catsmere · 14/11/2023 10:24

@RumNotRun I love Frankie's fang there! Reminds me of a darling boy I cat-sat twenty or so years ago. Named Offie because he was found in an off-license. He was a black Oriental and had fangs that grew past his jaw. Scary looking cat but a total sweetheart.

Phoebe the Queen of Tail Chasing sends Velvet her congratulations on this new skill.

Very good demonstration of bidirectional rotation there by Phoebe, and increased difficulty score because of the relative shortness of her tail. Overall an impressive 9.5 and if she can do that on top of a stool, chair, back of a sofa an unequivocal 10/10.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/11/2023 10:33

By the way, your voice is super soothing @Catsmere - have you considered a career in hypnotism?

Allergictoironing · 14/11/2023 18:48

It turns out my office has it's own NMC! He has started turning up at dusk and waiting until someone goes in or out, then dashing to sit in just the right position so the door doesn't close again and he basks in the hot air coming out of the heating system over the doorway.

Reception have taken to inviting him in for a kip, then his mum comes to pick him up at about 5-5:15. I found today he likes a stroke and an ear scritch...

He's actually very dark tabby & white, and as you can see rather floofy. With the Most Enormous paws 😁

Got to love an office cat 😁.

Supersimkin2 · 14/11/2023 19:19

He’s very lovely for an intern. Or CEO, even.

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2023 20:10

Do you think he'll get promotion, Allergic?

That was my mum talking! 😸 I have a lisp, so I doubt anyone would find my voice soothing - and since I had to be on Symbicort for a month to deal with a persistent post-viral cough, it's become hoarse.

Ohh, added bonus for an office NMC.
I saw an office goat on Facebook the other day. It was super cute and had a habit of eating paper. I'd love to be able to tell our patients, "sorry, the office goat ate your prescription!" 😂
In other news, Socks, the world's most shy and timid cat, came downstairs and sat on a chair in the lounge this evening. We've had her about four years and it's the first time she's done that. She normally only scurries through the lounge on her way between the back door and the stairs. She's never once sat on my lap but does spend most of the night on the bed snuggled up to me so I guess she trusts me to protect her while she sleeps.

RumNotRun · 14/11/2023 21:31

I want an office animal! I might go in a bit more often if we did. Although I suppose technically I have seven office cats as I usually WFH. It's not the same though.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/11/2023 21:34

That’s lovely @Papergirl1968! It’s such a nice feeling. I have a fairly troubled home life and my self-esteem is through the floor, and have actually cried in the past few days when Velvet has slept on my bed, it feels like at least one animal likes and trusts me. Much more sadly my very experienced in cat-ownership grandmother tried to entice a stray called Evie (a gorgeous white longhair, we could never work out why she was stray) into the house very patiently for three years. She was just starting to venture in and sit in the study for a few minutes when one day we discovered her on the road having been hit by a car :( my nana thinks of her as “the one that got away” of her cats and it was so cruel that she was taken away just before getting in to what would have been cat heaven as homes go, with no pressure even to socialise (another one of my DGM’s cats spent as far as I’m aware his entire life under a bed, being fed defrosted freshwater prawns).

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 14/11/2023 21:39

I used to advocate persistently for an office cat in the law firm (currently on long term sick). It would be perfect, people work long hours and weekends so there would always be a cat to be fussed for stress relief and the cat would never be short of laps! Law offices tend to be formed of very close-knit teams who actually really enjoy team-building stuff so there wouldn’t be a shortage of people competing to pet the cat the most, take the best care of him/her, and bringing in food is also a huge thing so the cat wouldn’t go hungry (I could even foresee them just giving up on bringing in human cake and giving the cat treats for birthdays etc because the cat would at least eat and enjoy…)

SequentialAnalyst · 14/11/2023 21:43

You could put in a requisition for an Office Goat, describing it as an Ecological Shredder?

@RumNotRun That little toothy-peg...

Does anyone ever get large paper bags these days? Large enough for a cat to get inside? This was our favourite cat thing in my youth. If you can get the cat inside (they can be enticed in), then you can leave them to it, and sit back and watch the fun. Their own movements will trigger rustling and bag movement, which in turn will trigger pouncing in the cat. Which will trigger more rustling etc...And so on...

And then you can clear up the shredded paper bag.
