Large/low litter trays

Can anyone recommend a suitable litter tray please?

I have a large 8.5kg Maine Coon cross who is getting a bit arthritic at nearly nine years old. He's starting to struggle with his litter tray and getting his sore hip over the sides.

Requirements are - no lid or cover (he won't use them), big enough to fit him comfortably so he doesn't aim over the sides, but sides that are low enough for him to step over easily without pain.

We have two other (smaller) cats but they're not particularly fussy about type of tray. It does need to be fairly robust though as the MC cross does scratch about in it a lot.

I've got a Savic corner tray. You can easily take the hood off. It's deep enough but the front is a bit lower. It's quite big.

Something like this?

Thanks! I'll take a look at both. He's back in the vets next week to hopefully trial some medication too.

I used a large potting tray for my elderly arthritic rabbit.

I just use a 'really useful box' base. Can't remember the exact size but it's big enough for two medium sized cats at the same time 🙀 so should be ok for one Maine Coon.. Go and have a look round in your local Homebase.

A rectangular storage box, perhaps the under-bed type from Homebase etc, can work well for large cats and are very much cheaper than dedicated cat litter trays!

Oh, that one looks good and will hopefully protect my paintwork a bit as he likes scratching at the walls afterwards Hmm

We actually have one of these at the moment for him as he doesn't fit in a regular tray, but he's struggling to get his sore leg over the side unfortunately Sad

He's managing for now but I don't want to wait until he can't get in to find a replacement.

I bought a huge lidded storage box for ours, DH dutifully cut a hole in the end , making sure the edges were smooth and there was enough depth space for litter.
“we don’t like it” they protested. These are cats that will slide themselves under the sofa , under kitchen units or down the side of the washing machine.

Female has a big lidded tray she likes to scrape the inners walls
Male has an under bed box that would fit him five times over. I took the wheels off it. There’s a raised bit in each corner where the wheel arch is. This is where he likes to pee. The most awkward bit to get the scoop in (sigh)
