Cat and baby

Hello! Dc is nearly one and since birth we’ve always locked cat in the downstairs living room/dining room at night for baby’s safety around ten pm. Between baby’s bedtime and ten pm cat just snoozes on landing and doesn’t go in baby’s room when she’s in bed.

what age did others stop locking cat away at night? Dc can move herself, but I probably wasn’t going To not lock cat away until after the toddler years. Just in case.

As a side, cat and baby love each other and cat is incredibly patient with baby which is so lovely. I still wouldn’t like to take the risk at night unsupervised of course.

Our cat is always locked in the utility room at night so can't really comment on that. It's kind of like her bedroom.
However she has free roam of the house during the day and sometimes sleeps on kids beds (despite me constantly chucking her out of the 1yo's cot bed). A few times she's been in their rooms without me knowing when they have a nap. She never goes near them sleeping. Normally finds a quiet corner, possibly because she knows how unpredictable they can be at the best of times. Generally she does tolerate them really well though.

Maybe just test it and watch to see if your cat is actually interested.

Thanks sounds like we do similar as cat also has free range in the day and doesn’t interrupt baby’s naps. Cat knows the routine of going down to the living room for bed time and will come and find me if I haven’t locked her up 🤣
