Can anyone recommend a cat flap (chip reading with timer function)

Need to get a cat flap for my lord and master but we have a local cat who tries to get in the house so it needs to be a chip activated one and also because we keep him in at night would prefer one with a timer or at least one I could lock to stop him going out but not coming in.

Obviously cat flaps on Amazon have reviews but I know they can be temperamental after a while so interested to know which ones actually keep working.

Can anyone recommend a cat flap (chip reading with timer function)

Your lord and master is very beautiful, and deserves the very best cat flap in the Kingdom😻.
We've got a Sureflap Dual Scan cat flap which is brilliant. The only thing is it needs Duracell batteries not the cheaper ones It works perfectly at all times. We tried cheap batteries but didn't work.
We bought the basic one at first, which is open to go out but locked to come in.It reads the chip as the cat comes in This was fine but a neighbour's cat found a way to get in.I contacted Sureflap , they are amazing, really good customer service if you need it.They immediately send a dual scan one out to me The cat flap is locked both ways You can change the settings though.I do recommend them Good luck

I think most chip flaps also have a manual 3/4 way lock.

We have the one with an app you can lock remotely but it has been the most expensive pain in the ass contraption ever.

Currently not working as I had the temerity to unplug it for a nana second

We have a Sureflap for 5/6 years, no problems. It keeps the neighbours cat out. It works with any AA batteries.
It has an app which is useful when you go on holiday as you can see that it's going in and out.

Which one do you have @Oldraver?

How does the dual scan model keep out rogue cats if the ‘basic’ selective cat flap doesn’t? Just curious! We have the basic Sureflap one, it’s so nice to keep out intruders!

Hi Coffeepot 72.Sorry I don't know how to get your username up without typing it !
My neighbour's cat found that if he pushed on the bottom corner of the flap, the other side would move enough for him to hook a claw underneath the flap, pull it towards him and get in the house.I was amazed to see him sitting in the kitchen one day.
I emailed Sureflap, they said certain cats had worked this out.
They sent me a Dual Scan replacement by return of post as I was still within the 3 year guarantee.

Clarich007 · 16/10/2023 20:11

Sorry I reread your post and didn't answer your question.
The dual scan cat flap is locked both ways at all times with a piece of white plastic that slides into place. So if a cat outside pushed on the flap it doesn't move as the plastic blocks it.If you see what I mean

We have a sureflap dual scan which is great for multi cat households as our kittens aren’t allowed out yet (so are programmed as in only) and the older ones as in and out. However- the older ones have broken the lock by getting their claws round the flap and pulling it forward repeatedly to escape so we have to physically block it with a crate of gym weights overnight to keep them in- it doesn’t work in it’s own. Friend has the pet door with curfew setting but her cat doesn’t try to break out!

Sureflap have recently sent me a new lock free of charge but I don’t give it long before they break it again.

Unless the cat is like mine and uses brute force to break it open.

We have 1 cat and a basic Sureflap microchip activated flap.
It works fine despite getting a bashing from random cats trying to get in.

Clarich007 · 16/10/2023 20:23

What a palaver...I see your problem
My cat is so scared of it he treats it like an unexploded bomb and barely touches it when he uses it.😹
