Hi there

My cat is a 3 year old moggy, he is an outdoor cat but does have a litter tray in the house which he uses very occasionally for a pee. This morning he was meowing loudly which he does normally to get food/let out so not unusual in itself but definitely louder than normal. When I got up he had left a poo in the hall which my partner cleaned up, then downstairs I found bloody mucus on the rug. I asked my partner if the poo had blood in it but he said he didn’t notice. Can anyone advise what this might be? I will take him to the vets but just in case it’s stands out as something someone might have dealt with before?

My girl had this from a diet change. It caused colitis. Some Kaolin paste and back to old food and it quickly resolved.

I was also going to say colitis - it looks really concerning but it's surprisingly common and generally fairly easy to resolve depending on the cause.

It can be caused by dietary indiscretion but it can also be down to stress. You say he pooed in the hall - is that common for him or could something have upset him?

Thank you both 🙏 he’s been on the same food for a couple of years but I think he sneaks into neighbours next door occasionally to eat their cats food (and vice versa!) so maybe they have a different food.

Thats interesting about the stress factor - he never does anything on the floor, very occasional pee in the litter tray. So that was unusual for him and maybe upset him? He’s eating normal and kept him in today but he hasn’t done anything else since. I really hope it’s a one off and not serious.

It could be as simple as him not being able to hold it, but what can sometimes happen is they go in the tray and it hurts, so they associate the tray with pain and toilet on the floor instead. It can be quite common in cats with IBS or cystitis.

As PP said, ProKolin is great for cats with upset stomachs. We get it off Amazon and always have a supply in the house as our kitten is prone to eating out of the sink and giving himself the runs Hmm

Thank you so much, I’ll order some prokolin 👍 Ahh the kitten stage, they are such a hazard to themselves but so bloody cute 🥰
