Has anyone successfully stopped their cat scratching at a closed door? 😫

Has anyone found anything that actually works to stop cats scratching at doors?

Mine is waking us up scratching at the bedroom door, we can’t let her in because she gets up on the baby crib.

We live in a very small (annoyingly open plan) flat so there’s no other doors to block her off except the bathroom.

I actually had to sleep on the sofa with her last night to stop her trying to get into the bedroom. It’s ridiculous. I am SO tired please help. 😫

@TibetanTerrah cute but annoying sums her up 😂 Wouldn’t swap her for the world though.

@YetAnotherSpartacus oh god I hope she doesn’t resort to that! She’ll end up covered in sticky tape and tin foil like a shit homemade robot costume.

@verdantverdure if she would settle sleeping near us, there wouldn’t be a problem, it’s the keeping us up trying to break into a crib and sit on a newborn that’s the issue. But please don’t worry about her not being loved. Me and her are BFFs, I’m with her 90% of the time and she gets affection and attention throughout the morning, day and evening. (She even has a bed on my desk for while I’m working.) I’m only looking for a break at nights.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius that is such cat behaviour! 4am is the worst too because it’s so close to morning it’s hard to sleep again.

Put something on the door that is unpleasant for the cat. Some cats don't like the smell of citrus, vinegar or eucalyptus. You can try spraying one of these scents on the door to repel the cat. But remember that cats also need attention

It’s a very small flat is the problem so quite hard to keep the smell in one location. What I mean is I don’t want her to be able to smell vinegar or citrus everywhere and be distressed.
… Or am I being too precious? I could try a tiny bit.

Yes, I taped a large piece of bubble wrap to it 😂
