Anyone else have indestructible fleas this year??

Hi fellow cat people.

The fleas this year just will not be killed!! We have 3 lovely babies and our eldest has flea allergic dermatitis. She is ripping out her fur in clumps and so uncomfortable.

She has been treated religiously with advantage and frontline plus alternatively every 4 weeks as we are nice responsible pet owners and know even one flea can set her off. She has had 2 steroid injections, Stronger flea treatment from the vets and we have used indorex on carpets and all soft furnishings plus vacuuming daily.

Is there anything we are missing??

My two have an injection with Program 6 monthly, it doesn't kill fleas but if they bite the cat they are rendered sterile and can't breed. We haven't had an infestation for about 10 years. We know they can still
pick up the odd one but I don't think even that has happened for the last few years as one does have flea bite allergy and can get covered in scabs but that hasn't happened for several years either. My two are very resistant to being brushed or combed or having spot-ons. Maybe talk to the vet about trying that?

I got felisecto from the vet and it seems to have cracked it, but it took a good couple of weeks along with daily vacuuming. Fleas are really bad this year, I wonder why?

I've been thinking this too, treated the cats monthly with frontline for fleas and ticks yet they're both still scratching away and usually they aren't, especially just after treatment. I think I'm going to get bravecto, just looked it up and apparently it lasts 3 months so that's 2x less pinning them down to apply it too! One thing I have noticed though is no ticks on either of mine and last year they were awful.

We have really struggled this year as well-it hasn’t helped that one cat was reacting to the Advantage.

The vet gave us Bravecto spot- on which seems really good and lasts for 3 months but cost nearly £50! I need to look at buying it online to see if it’s cheaper-not sure how much the vest would charge for the prescription!

We cracked our flea problem with Felpreva on prescription - seems to have done the trick, also includes wormer etc.

Also costs about £50, depends on size of cat, but for 3 months.

It’s been a lot of work to rid our boy of them. In the end what worked was a combination of regular combing, daily and spot on flea treatments, mists and sprays, and calling out pest control on two separate occasions (3 months apart) to treat the carpets. 😒
