Bloating and inulin in cat foods

Been trying to figure out the bloating for a while. Cat is overweight anyway and on a diet.

I have been more vigilant than ever about food, although not sure it was possible. Grain free, sugar free, high meat content etc. No crappy treats like Dreamies, and only wet food.

I have suspected fish is not great for her so have just removed all the food containing fish from the cupboard, checked ingredients of everything that is left and now all single protein or poultry (some with added veg) so will take further note as we work through it.

What I realised is that cat food now contains inulin. Inulin causes gas...which in turn can cause bloating. I can't find a food in my supplies that doesn't have inulin as an ingredient, so I think I am fighting a losing battle with the bloating. She is a happy, bouncy little thing and eats anything.

It's not just pet foods that contain inulin, it's in human food too, and has been sneaking in for a while now. I am not impressed with this. So, if you have a cat with a pot belly you may want to check what's in the ingredients of their food rather than assume you are overfeeding which could cause weightloss if you reduce the food quantity without weighing.

My food all comes from Zooplus, not checked any supermarket stuff, but interested to know if anyone has looked or has a balloon shaped cat and inulin in their food.

Buy a pack of chicken thighs and slow
cook until their tender. I think giving fresh meat is cheaper and better in the long run.

Chicken is OK for a change but cats still need taurine and many other things which will not be available in plain chicken.
Thank you for your reply though.

I am more interested in the inulin question, not what to feed. I am working through the foods as an elimination excercise before going back to the vet.

Inulin can be given for IBS in cats, but it causes bloating in the digestive system.
