Is this a hairball?

A cat has been coming to my house since about April. It got in through the window. I know it comes from next door & it's delightful and adorable.

However, yesterday it came in and headed towards my room. It usually just sits and looks around so I wasn't concerned. I'd stripped my bed to wash the sheets. It had been in there a while so I went in and found this on my matress protector? Is this a furball or something even more grim. I've never owned a cat so not used to this.

I think I'm going to have to stop the cat coming in so much as it seems to be getting attached. I know obviously the furball is not the cat's fault, but I'd imagine dealing with that kind of thing is bad enough as the owner, never mind if it's just a cat visiting.

Is this a hairball?

Looks like regurgitated chunks of cat food to me.

Looks like cat sick.
Have you figured out if the cat is stray?

Jennalong · 05/10/2023 23:02

I'd say no , they actually are poo shaped in the main . The ones we are presented with are also dark in colour to match the hair on the cat !
That looks more likely something they ate.

Freshly vomited food. The gift of a cat with eyes bigger than its belly.

Agh 🤢 No, it's not a stray - it lives next-door but one, but I don't actually know the owners. There is a huge gap between our houses. It looks well looked after. It stays here hours on end. I enjoy having it here as I'm alone and it's very affectionate, but it probably needs more time at home.

Anyway, off to gag again. I'm a squeemish person, so I probably wouldn't make the best pet owner.

I also didn't hear it being sick - do cats make noise when sick? There was no smell to whatever it was but it was light and crumbly.

Cat sick isn't usually smelly IME, no more so than cat food is smelly (which is a bit smelly I suppose!).

I never feed it myself by the way as don't want to encourage it even more & I wouldn't know if it had allergies.

The cat is a ginger tabby if that makes any difference as to whether it's likely to be hair.

The consensus seems to be sick though so we'll stick with that 😂

After a lifetime of having cats - it's cat sick.

Clarich007 · 06/10/2023 15:29

Definately100% regurgitated cat food.
Awful I know.My cat starts licking his lips when he's going to be sick, then stretches his neck out and makes awful sounds. Some signs to watch out for.
Fur balls are just solid hair, looks like a poo shape.
