What do you do with the poo?

I am going through an insane amount of poo bags with two new kittens. By the time I've scooped one poo, tied the bag up and chucked it in the wheely bin, there is a fresh poo to replace it. All these poo bags is just ridiculous.

Anyone have one of those cat waste bins? They seem really expensive, but interestingly enough nappy bins look like they do the exact same thing... But they're half the price of a cat bin!

I flush ours down the toilet.

Selttan · 28/09/2023 14:51

I have a litter genie and it works really well but im now using a Tommee tippee nappy bin which is not quite as good but does the job.

I switched because the bags of the nappy bin were a lot cheaper.

I flush ours down the toilet.

Does it not have litter stuck all over it?! You can't flush that down the toilet!! Aside from the fact you should not be flushing animal poo 😮

Our cats are trained to use the toilet.

Lulabella1 · 28/09/2023 15:13

Its their toilet, humans don't use it.

Cookerhood · 28/09/2023 15:14

You aren't suppose to put animal poo into the toilet due to parasites etc.

DivingForLove · 28/09/2023 15:14

@Lulabella1 well you need to un train them 😬. That’s bloody gross.

DivingForLove · 28/09/2023 15:15

@Lulabella1 so where does the flushed waste go?! If it goes into the main sewers that’s not ok!

TBOM · 28/09/2023 15:15

@Lulabella1 - read the link a PP posted, flushing animal waste into the sewer is absolutely not allowed, and is completely disgusting.

Beamur · 28/09/2023 15:17

I bag mine up and put outside, then add to the bag when I empty the tray.
If you use something like wood pellets and your cats are wormed etc, what's so terrible about flushing down the toilet?

Papergirl1968 · 28/09/2023 15:21

Nappy bags or even bread bags, used sandwich bags etc. Then into the bin outside.

Catname · 28/09/2023 15:22

I use a Litter Locker but with a normal pedal bin liner rather than the cassettes they sell for them. I don’t know how a nappy bin works but there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in price if you are buying one new rather than reusing one you already have - unless Google isn’t showing me cheap websites.

If you have a nappy bin already, why not try it and see if it works for you?

Nappy bins are coming up around £15 when I google. Those litter lockers are £30+!

Poo bags, then into a bin with a lid just outside the back door then once a week I tip it into the wheelie bin at the bottom of the garden.

MonumentalLentil · 28/09/2023 18:13

I had a litter locker many years ago, I found it a bit of a faff and it needed far too much attention.

I put in on Ebay and got a bin instead.

Now I use clumping litter and put the pee lumps in one bag until there is a poo as well, then I get rid of the bag. It works because Lentil cat poos to a timetable so I can use one bag per day, I don't keep them overnight. Still have a bin.

Squeaky2023 · 28/09/2023 18:33

I get loads of free newspapers through the door and get some extra from Waitrose. I wrap the piss n' shite up in those and then bin. Better environmentally too as it's paper not plastic.

Noooooo!!!

Blarn · 28/09/2023 19:00

I remember many years ago, my dad used to scoop cat poos into a sheet of newspaper, screw it up and chuck it in the bin.

evrey · 28/09/2023 19:12

I've never flushed it down the loo, cos my cats don't like the flushable litter. but honestly didn't realize it was such a no no!

catnipevergreen · 29/09/2023 02:06

In a bag , put into the main bin then thrown out. I don't live in the Uk , our main rubbish disposal is a big bin cupboard and these are another and cleaned daily in our building. Would never even consider flushing down the loo
