It feels like we are living at the bets at the moment. I posted a while ago about my little kitten and bloody diarrhea. After a lot of going back to the vets they finally did a stool sample. (After I changed vets) and it came back as campylobacter. They gave me erythromycin to give for 5 days. He still had diarrhea but the rancid smell disappeared and he was like a new cat. 2 days after the course finished hws back to how he was. Vets suggested he stayed for sedation and blood tests even though the person who prescribed them said it wasn't necessary. Or we could do another 5 days on antibiotics but she thinks I will have to come back. I'm happy to come back but would prefer to try the antibiotics again first as he did improved and he's only 5 months and I think sedation is a bit much for him.unless completely necessary. She said OK. Do the antibiotics as he will need them again anyway. I asked what would happen if we did the bloods and it came back as just this and nothing underlining and she said we would just keep trying the antibiotics... but the bloods she wants to do plus sedation will come to about £700. I have insurance and its unlikely to be anything other than campylobacter according to the vet who diagnosed him (same practice) he's happy in himself, drinking, easting, playing, weeing.
Do you think I should go ahead with the bloods. Its seems a bit OTT as he had stool samples done. From 4 samples and nothing else came up. The breeder gave him a raw food diet which is obviously where this came from.
Any advice from.peple with similar experience or hwho have had cats longer. I'm reluctant to put him.through sedation as he's tiny and weighs just over a kilo. He's putting on weight fine. Just a small breed.
Oh also, he's on royal canin GI wet food. No dry food as he doesn't like it and water. Vet said to keep him on this food.
Thank you
