This is weird, right?

We have a 3 and a half year old Russian Blue girl. She's always been nervous and skittish, doesn't like being picked up will run away from people most of that time, likes to hide quite a bit.
Recently she's started bringing in mice so in a bid to stop her by giving the mice fair warning I've put a collar with a bell on her. I thought she'd go nuts and hate it but honestly she hasn't minded at all.
In fact she seems to have had a complete personality change in the week or so since we put it on. She's become really friendly and actually seeks out affection every day. It's like it's made her happy. I mean I'm obviously pleased. It's nice to have a happy friendly cat but can anyone think why? Anyone else had similar?

No. Is it her colour?

Ha! Maybe. It's pink and sparkly. Her name is Princess so I guess that could be it (I didn't name her!!)

Maybe she is happy that she has successfully cleared the whole world of mice, as she no longer sees any.

Yes!! Maybe that's it! 😆

Different animal obviously but my rescue dog of unknown origin hates having her collar off, it's usually only taken off for her to be washed which is not often (not neglect just protecting her thin skin). I think it's a security thing, maybe your cat feels more secure with her collar on 🤷.

As a fellow cat lover and accidental dog custodian, is it a quick release collar?

Splishsplashsplooshsplosh · 16/09/2023 21:58

Yeah could be a security thing. I thought that. Also she loves toys with jingly bells so maybe she feels like she has a toy with her all the time?
Yes it's a quick release. Thanks for asking 😊

Who knows, cats do what cats do and we'll probably never know why. Good to hear it's quick release. By the way, you haven't paid your cat tax. Photo needed!

Here she is. Our little weirdo.

Have you had her from a kitten or has she had previous owners? If the latter, maybe they put a collar on her so she associates it with good things?

If you take it off, does she behave the same way? A sudden behaviour change can indicate a medical issue, like for example purring isn't always happy - can be self-soothing.

Lastly make sure it's an easy-release collar especially if she's new to having one, you may spend a fortune on replacing them but collars can easily get caught and hang a cat.

Maybe she's coming close as she wants you to take it off 😆
