Two girls, two boys or one of each?

We're hoping to get a pair of kittens at some point soon and I was wondering what combination we should aim for. Everything I've read online suggests that boy cats tend to be more easygoing when it comes to getting along with other cats, and girls can be a bit more territorial. But everything I've read also says that every cat is different!

So does it really matter? Obviously they'll be neutered at the appropriate age!

Every cat is different.
I have had a boy/girl kitten combo - worked well
Currently have 2 sisters. They're very much a pair and do everything together.
Friends have boy/boy. Another set of friends have boy/girl.
However I have a third girl cat who doesn't like the other two and another friend recently acquired a lovely young boy cat who had to be rehomed after his sister and litter mate started blocking him from coming into the house.
If you get them from a rescue, see if the staff have any views on which kittens get on. We observed ours for a long time and chose two who seemed to seek each other out a lot.

I have one of each, siblings, they couldn't be more different but very complimentary to each other.
The boy IS more easily affectionate and vocal, the girl is smarter, more curious and particular about how she likes to be stroked and petted.
I adore her as she is feisty and reminds me of a childhood pet I had.
We weren't actually 100% about getting two kittens but she was the only one that engaged with me on a visit before committing to them.

I would visit the litter and get a feel for which ones you are most drawn to for a more accurate assessment.

Good luck!

Two boys. Purely from my experience, doctored Tom cat moggies tend to be the soppiest, friendliest cats.

I got a boy and a girl together and they still sleep together at 15 years old but they often bicker and she thinks he is too rough. I think 2 boys would play more together. My girl is very affectionate and demands attention many times a day, the boy is friendly but less demanding- but when he wants a cuddle, it’s from me and not DP 😻

It's really a "how long is a piece of string" question. I originally got a brother & sister (young adult) and they were great together, then when the boy was PTS recently got another younger boy. Took a while to settle in, but he gets on great with the older girl now (except she's definitely the boss!).

DBro & SiL originally had sisters from kittens, inseparable, when one died they got a male/female sibling pair. Was fine until the remaining old girl died, then the boy kept attacking the girl with serious intent so he had to be rehomed & they got a young adult girl - these girls get on fine.

Best friend had one of each. When the boy died suddenly he got 2 kitten brothers. They are good friends, but it took ages before his older girl would accept them & tbh she just tolerates them now. Another friend has 2 boys who get on OK. DSis had one of each most recently, they just tolerated each other.

Short answer - pot luck!

Doesn't really matter. But obviously if you get a boy/girl pair you might have to keep them separate for a while until they can be neutered, depending on their age.

I have 2 boys and they are very cuddly and affectionate both to us and each other (even though not related) They have a bit of a play fight but you can tell it is just that as half way through they start cleaning each other.

We have boy/girl siblings. They both like a cuddle but only on their own terms! Meaning they might climb onto your lap, but if you try to pick them up they will wriggle away. The girl cat spends more time outside. They get on well with each other.

I'd say neutered males are soppiest and most accepting overall.
