Sorry, another one about collars and tracking....

GirlCat goes out (well, theoretically all 3 go out, but the boys come right back in again) and wanders. She's been very good about coming back to eat in the evening, and then gets kept in overnight, fed again in the morning and then let out (ie catflap is unlocked and they are all free to come and go as they please).
However, she's been staying away for longer and longer, and sometimes doesn't come in again at all until morning. We live quite rurally and I am really worried about her being out all night - there are a lot of wild animals, plus people tend to drive really fast through the village at night. I think I need to put a tracker on her so I can go and get her when it's time for dinner.

I have a Tile Pro (which I used with ds2 as he was a bit of a runner and I worried about losing him at theme parks etc), which has a really good range. There is no mobile reception where we live so GPS tracker is not an option (plus would be too big imo).

Anyway, GirlCat doesn't wear a collar atm, so my question is : which quick-release collar would you recommend?
I know the problems with collars, none of my cats has ever had one, but I've never had a cat that doesn't come in when called either.

My two have rogsmogz collars that came with their Tracktive GPS trackers. I thought they'd be too big too but they don't bother the girls at all. Zara has successfully triggered the quick release on her collar quite a few times now. When you say there's no mobile reception, you mean the mobiles don't work at all? That's weird. I live in a semi-rural village and mobile receptionis dodgy but the GPS does work. Anyway, these are the collars

Cat missing a few weeks now. I wish wish wish microchips were also tracking devices, although a lot of vets told me most people don’t bring cats in to scan them if they find them and vets sometimes forget too:(

No mobile reception, which I think you need for GPS? We live up a hill from a town, so it makes absolutely no sense, but you cannot use your mobile up here at all. Coupled with the fact that I'm pretty sure GirlCat hides out under cars and bushes etc. I don't think GPS would be any use.

I've tested the Tile Pro btw, in case anyone is interested - it was fantastic! I got the kids to go out and hide it around the village and then I went to look for it. Obviously they didn't actually go into people's back gardens, but it was clear that it would easily be readable from the road if it was behind a house. The down side is that I literally have to walk around until I get a signal - it can't send any information so I don't know where to go. On the other hand, I roughly know the area she would be in, so I think I'll be able to track her down reasonable quickly.

@stayathomer I'm so sorry, really hope your cat does turn up soon. A friend of mine lost her cat for months and months and then it turned up - had been living with another family at the other end of their village!

TheKitchenWitch
Thank you, am really hoping that’s it, that she’s happy out somewhere! Every time it lashes rain I think of her under a bush somewhere trying to get home:(
