Fleas

What a nightmare I'm having with them. Firstly my youngest cat got them and then my other cat. I monthly. Flea treatment them and they still get fleas. Fleas have gone on my youngest one after much combing. Now my other cat won't stop scratching. I've combed her daily and it's much better but she's very itchy. I've given her a flea bath. I've treated the whole house and vacuumed daily. She's of to the vet Tuesday but anything I can do in meantime to soothe her. A friend said try benadryl but don't feel right giving it to her

It’s ok to give anti histamine to cat, just give her half and see if it helps.

We had fleas earlier this year. Nightmare! I got a lot of good advice on here.

Some flea treatments have become less effective. Frontline and Effipro are among them. Hopefully the vet can prescribe something stronger. They can advise but you don't have to leave it a month before you re-treat with a different medication. Once she has had an effective treatment she should stop scratching within a couple of days. Keep combing her and bathe again tomorrow as I've heard the flea shampoo only kills the live fleas at the time.

If they are really bad you may need to flea bomb the rooms with carpets/soft furnishings. I was advised here to use Indorex, which I couldn't get, but got one with the same active ingredient.

We are suffering here too - apparently it's a very bad year for fleas.
I haven't got anything to add, we're trying the same as you, but you have my solidarity in the fight!

He's a handsome chap, but his little "pets" are driving us mad.

Hi has anyone used Pest One insect smoke bombs, I've been tackling a flea issue, do I need to hoover my flat before I set them off?

Thanks in advance

D

We are having the same issue with our indoor cats! Both treated with flea stuff from the vets monthly! We have used strike back on carpets and furniture. I have combed this week and all now appear dead.

Could you tell which one you bought instead of Indorex?

balconylife · 13/09/2023 07:29

For the house, I have ordered Indorex but in the meantime used up an old tin of Acclaim which seems to have worked.

First time in 10 years my cat has fleas and it's been a nightmare trying to get rid. The vet told me to use Advantage Spot on, and Capstar flea tablets to kill the fleas on him over 24 hours.

I've used spray, but have also sprayed white vinegar on my carpet and have also sprinkled salt all over my carpets

I'm interested to hear how this works. I've got a friend who is struggling to get rid of an infestation in her home and has spent hundreds of pounds she doesn't have trying to do so. I clicked on this thread hoping to find sometime and haven't yet come across salt and vinegar!!! Do you leave it for a while and then hoover??

Superlegs · 13/09/2023 15:16

I heard a bowls of warm soapy water dotted around on the floor will kill them off too. They are attracted to the warmth and jump into the water.

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 13/09/2023 18:09

@JTro the brand was Beaphar and we got it from Amazon. They do both sprays and flea bombs/foggers for the house. (We are in France - not sure on availability for other countries).

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 13/09/2023 18:12

Should have added - the Beaphar spray/bombs wee very effective. We bombed the three rooms with soft furnishings and followed up with spray on sofas/cushions/curtains the next day. We have hard floors and just used the spray in the rooms with no beds/sofas etc.

MathsIsFab · 13/09/2023 19:34

We get Stronghold (needs vet prescription ) supposed to be the strongest

This is a link re white vinegar and salt, I left the salt on the carpet etc for a few days, I live on my own so it was grand, I then hoovered it all up and sprayed the carpet with white vinegar, I also sprayed my fabric settee, its a cheaper than the spray ect https://www.farmanddairy.com/top-stories/how-to-get-rid-of-fleas/439305.html#:~:text=If%20fleas%20have%20spread%20throughout,kill%20flea%20eggs%20and%20larvae.

Thank you! I'll pass on the link!
