Getting rid of fleas

We have a horrible flea infestation 😞

last weekend we used indorex throughout the whole house which seems to work for a few days but alas we are covered again.

my husband has bought some flea bombs. Has anyone used these? They seem really strong chemicals - we have a 3 year old and a 7 month old who put everything in their mouths and I’m really concerned about using such strong stuff.

When you use the flea bomb so you have to move food etc? I guess I’d have to was all toys after? Mover her bottle machine and bottles etc?

Any other tips for getting rid?

Have you treat the pet first? We had them on our cat and in the house including upstairs. I got an expensive flea collar for the cat that kills all fleas within 12 hours and it did. We then sprayed indorex all over the house, didn't use the flea bomb so not sure on those

What are you treating the cat with?

CocoPlum · 10/09/2023 09:48

I treated our cat with Advocate (prescription). Then Indorex everywhere, I closed the doors/windows for a while when I sprayed just to keep it in. Then you need to hoover daily. After a week, I sprayed again. I found a couple on me but they were clearly affected by the spray as they were easy to catch.

Unless you treat the animals, you'll never get rid of them.

Ideally, you need prescription strength treatment from the vet - Advocate is good but under the new regulations, the vet will need to see each animal before they can prescribe - so if that's not an option, Advantage is prescription-free and contains the same active ingredient.

You'll need to treat all the animals at the same time, Indorex absolutely everything and hoover thoroughly.

I think it's been a bumper year for fleas and bitey things. I keep on top of monthly treatment for my cats (vet prescribed) and I have still had to take 2 of them to the vets for additional treatment as they were pulling their fur out. Both have flea allergies.
You just have to re-treat rooms sometimes as fleas are so small (and at different stages of development) and you don't want to drown yourself in toxic junk.

I didn’t realise they contained the same active ingredient. Do you know what makes one prescription-only? Is it much stronger?

I would like a spray/powder to put on the cat itself as well as the spot on-does such an (effective!) thing exist? I’m sure when mine were kittens and too tiny to have the spot-on, the vet sprayed them with something.

We are suffering as well. I’ve Indorexed the house and hoovering daily. Flea-combing the cats and have hot washed the bedding. It’s a bit too hot to be having to hoover so often 🥵

@Shinyandnew1 Advocate also treats worms whereas Advantage is just fleas.

Both have Imidacloprid as the active ingredient :)

Aha-thank you!

Has anyone tried this-it says it can be used alongside other flea treatments -I wondered if it was worth trying?

The only thing that worked for us was the £40 flea collars from pets at home. Indorex works, it was the spot on that wasn't working for us!!

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 10/09/2023 14:27

Make sure to buy from pets at home, there is fake ones being sold online such as amazon that have been causing reactions!!! I believe they're online only at pets at home but you have to put weight etc in.

This worked as a shampoo for my boy with a flea allergy it really soothed him and the washing got rid of a lot of fleas too! Just be careful if more than one cat in the house as my other boy didn't recognise his smell after using this and hissed at him for about 3 days after lol
