FIP, Toxo or Inflammatory Bowel Disease

My beautiful 3 year old male cat has been poorly for three days. Initially he was just off his food and listless. The next day he was much worse and we took him to the vet, by this stage he laying very still, refusing food and you could see his third eyelid. The vet did all the blood tests, urine tests, xray and an ultrasound and all results came back normal despite being an obviously very poorly cat. The vet is a mystified as to what it is he has said maybe FIP or Inflammatory Bowel disease. He says there is nothing he can do if it is FIP but he has put it on antibiotics and rehydrated him. We took him home last night feeling like he would probably die but he made it through the night and was slightly brighter in the morning. Took him back to vets who rehydrated him again, gave more antibiotics and antibiotics for us to give him. He is still extremely lethargic, can't see properly and when he does get up he is very wobbly. We have also wondered about toxoplasmosis because he has started to hunt mice the last month and i found a half eaten one about 5/6 days ago. Vet is due to call us again tomorrow. I'm just wondering if anyone has been through similar and can offer advice. Thank you

No advice, but wanted to say how sorry to hear about your poor boy.I know that awful feeling of worry and dread when your cat is ill.
Good luck fingers crossed it's something treatable

Can anyone help? Has anybody used the new drugs for FIP?

The drugs for FIP need to be started as soon as possible for the best chance of success - they do work but they are incredibly expensive - I believe around £80 a tablet and they need a lot of tablets.

The "good" news is that it should be covered by insurance as it's not a condition that can be fully vaccinated against, so if you do go down the route of treatment your insurance should pay out.

Have you heard from the vet today? Do they definitely think it's FIP?

We've spoken to the vet this afternoon. We've don't have insurance, we've been told it would £14,000 which we can't afford. Our vet isn't sure if that's what it is either. He thinks further tests would probably kill him anyway. He's pretty much comatose now. We are so devastated. He's likely to be put down tomorrow.
