How to stop cat spraying?

This is driving me mad. Cat 14 years old and for the last 5 years if there is any kind of change in the household, he sprays (anything and everything) and urinates where he shouldn't. I got another kitten and the spray, especially in the last 2 weeks, has been noticeable. He usually would do this where I wouldn't see him but I've caught him 3 times already today.
Rehoming the kitten is last resort, he ignores her mostly and I got her for my young son, who was really craving affection from the cat but cat has never tolerated him. They've bonded a lot over the last 2 months, he still cares dearly for the cat but doesn't follow him around all day etc
I thought about felliway but the only good reviews online are from places which stock it so is it really effective?
Litter tray is not shared. He has his own space to move away from kitten if he wants to. He's been getting lots of extra attention and treats from me.

First thing to do is collect a sample for the vet to check for infection. Uti don’t present with loss of appetite or lethargy.

My 12 year old cat started doing this back in May. We had been away for a few days on holiday and he had been well looked after by my parents but started weeing in random places. At first I thought it was stress because we had been away but noticed there was blood in his urine and he was avoiding the litter tray. A trip to the vets and a course of antibiotics helped and I upped his wet food to dilute the urine more. Since
then things have settled down.

He was at the vets just last year for the same thing, except this time there had been no big changes. All clear. Vet said it could be that he stresses easier with being older, which explains that it only started 5 years ago. Realised at the time, I'd been decorating. He'd always been OK with that.

Did they test his urine though? You can buy human urine test strips off amazon or eBay probably does a smaller pack and rub them on the damp patches.

Uti are more common in males.

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy 4 years ago and again in October, they did. He's never been diagnosed with UTI and he will go through phases like this during big changes, house moves, bringing baby home, the latest one being last year when I'd decorated. Then stopped soon after vet visit, he hadn't sprayed because of decorating before.

Stressful events trigger inflammation in the lining of the bladder, like a sore throat, you can use Cystease in his food daily when you know somethings going to upset him.

But it’s worth testing. The only symptom my girl showed was she did a wee on the bed.

We had a Bengal who sprayed at stressful events but would also randomly get uti and you couldn’t tell the difference, I handed over the urine sample expecting a negative and picked up a course of antibiotics and metacam instead.

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy I'm booking an appointment first thing Monday, even with a negative result I can hopefully get some advice on how to help. Poor boy is feeling stressed easier now, October was decorating, then he did the same when Christmas decorations were set up.

If anyone has used felliway or anything similar I would still like to gather opinions, as he has been known to do this on and off
