Rescue cat constantly pestering for food

We've had our rescue cat about 4 months. He was previously a stray, rescued by the vet and put up for adoption. He's always been very food orietnted - runs inti the room behind you and guzzles it down, sometimes jumps on to the table etc but since we went on holiday for ten days he's been acting a bit oddly. A neighbour was feeding him while we were away. First of all he seemed off his food altogether when we got back. Lidl seemed to have stopped doing his usual food so after trying a couple of different types we hot on sainsburys own which he seems to like fine but he's back to guzzling it, jumping up on the table, trying to eat our food and generally miaowing really loudly for food almost constantly. He otherwise seems well - very cuddly, but his pestering is quite hard to ignore. Any ideas?

Do you ever give in to his mithering?

My adults get a pouch of wet food each a day split across two meals, plus unlimited access to dry. They also get a few dreamies when I go up to bed.

The smallest weighs 5.5kg and his brother probably closer to 10kg Grin

Yes I probably have a bit since we got back from holiday as I was worried when he wasn't eating. Normally I might give him an extra treat or two but not extra meals and never from anything other than in his bowl.

Is the neighbour who fed him a cat owner? Do they feed their cat less?

Maybe it was random times. Mine are quite regimented in when they have their food. They're definitely not starving but will attack bread etc if it's left out. They are much happier if they are fed in their usual routine.

I'm wondering if the neighbour wasn't feeding him as often as she should, so now he's back to worrying about his next meal.

She is a cat owner but her cat's the opposite - dead fussy and delicate appetite. She might not have fed him at precise times but I very much doubt she sacked it off. It doesn't really fit with him suddenly going off his food though. We left a big box of pouches but they weren't his usual ones and were weirdly smooth but he seemed fine with them. She said he'd started off gobbling them and suddenly stopped a couple of days before we were back. He carried on being weird about it so I switched to the closest I could find to his usual ones but it was in a tin and had big chunks he seemed to like even less. Switched to a third type and he's guzzling it but back to being a greed monster. I suppose maybe he's worried I'll switch back to one of the other types! Anyway, am taking him to vet now about his eyes so shall mention.

I would maybe try not switching foods as much - cats can be really fussy with the taste and texture. Is his poo normal? I know one of my cats can end up with a really upset stomach if we dare to switch his food, lol.

Yeah unfortunately his preferred food seems to have been discontinued so the recent switching around was to try and find one he liked.

But vet confirmed he's under the weather! He's got a swollen throat and faster pulse and a slight temperature so he's got antibiotics. Probably explains the fussiness and the miaowing though less so the starving kitty act but maybe he just wanted attention. Hopefully he's on the mend.
