Peeing inside

I'm at the end of how to cope with my boy cat, since my husband moved in with his girl cat my boy has been marking his territory inside by spraying. This has been going on for years (2-3). But seems worse over summer, he would be outside constantly if we could let him but I don't like him out overnight as it's more dangerous

We've tried the below

  • urine stop sprays
  • multiple brands of feliway/similar
  • cleaning with enzyme cleaner
  • letting him out more

Girl cat doesn't go out, boy cat goes out/in on demand when we're home, no cat flap and no ability to install one in current house, need to move in around 18 months to a bigger place (delayed by current house market etc)

It's a small 1 bed house, got a baby on the way which will cause more stress and changes and can't be having him pee on everything

He's been to the vet, they said it's behavioural and suggested we pay £300-500 for a behavioural consult - which we can't really afford!! Doesn't seem to be covered by insurance

Has anyone got experience of fixing this with say an anti anxiety medication or something ?? I can't see any other options at this point?

Last feliway I bought he peed ON the feliway. My doors need replaced as the wood has been destroyed

It's 100% behavioural, we can't let him in at night until we're about to go to bed as he'll come in and not settle and when he wants out again he'll just run and pee on something and want back out. So he's doing it for attention/as a behavioural reaction

Anyone help??

Did you find a solution?

I hope your pregnancy went well and that the new baby arrives/d safely.

@VentBox thanks, he is currently on anti anxiety tablets and this has totally stopped it for now. He seems much happier and more relaxed and the house is a much nicer place. Baby is due in 5-6 weeks so we shall see how that goes 😁

what Litter do you use out of interest?

Which tablets is he on? One of my cats has been doing the same since my daughter arrived. A cat flap helped for a while but now it's started again...

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy we've tried several different kinds, Catsan and wood pellets mainly.

@kirstysmbc it's reconcile 8mg - for dogs and cats. They did try gabapentin first but it did nothing. I'm hoping that when we manage to get a cat flap - eventually that it'll help too! He's not sprayed once since being on the reconcile though but i still wouldn't leave him without access to outside as he doesn't really use his tray for pees!

A lot of cats don’t like the pellets, sometimes all you need is a deep layer of ultraclumping litter because it’s softer on delicate paw pads.

Our Bengal flicked his poo everywhere on his first cattery stay using pellets. The shame of being asked if your cats litter trained.
