I have a gorgeous 14 year old boy. Over a year ago he started twitching. It was slight at first. Just on his head. Then over time it has got worse. U don’t notice it unless he is sitting on u then his head will twitch and his eyes and now it is on his body and tail.

didn’t do scans as he has a heart murmur and didn’t want to risk it at his age. Vet was okay with that and just said see how he goes.

he Seems fine most of the time. Still climbing fences. He sleeps most of the day. Chases grasshoppers and still has a go at the orange cat. Eats really well.

but a few times in the last week I have heard him standing in the garden crying for no reason. He does cry more now. And have noticed him a few times staring at a wall.

my question to all u cat lovers is. When do u stop it before it gets worse. Do I stop fairly soon so it doesn’t get to that point. Or do I keep going till something happens. I don’t want to do this too early. But as there is something wrong in his brain I don’t want it to suddenly go. He isn’t in any pain. My vets answer is go with ur gut.

The crying and staring into space sounds like feline dementia - which is unfortunately fairly common as cats get older.

I wouldn't say it was necessarily a reason on it's own to have a cat PTS though - you'll need to look at his overall quality of life before you make that decision.

Aw, poor baby. I second feline dementia - personally I'd PTS as soon as my girl started showing signs of giving up. It's such a personal decision and nobody can tell you when

Yep, third vote for dementia. My old Maine Coon had it for a couple of years before he died at 19. I think you'd be better off making him an indoor cat - he has less chance of forgetting where he is (hence the crying to himself). The decision to euthanise is different for each animal. My cats have always found a way to let me know when they'd had enough.
