Fleas!

I use a spot on treatment every month.

Shes only just recently graduated from indoor to outdoor cat at the fine age of 2.

Every now and then she hops back in and acts a bit on edge... so I flea comb her. In the last 2 weeks I've gotten rid of 4 fleas.

Is this normal? Do they pick up fleas when treated? I'm completely paranoid of an invasion!

Hi OP, they should have none if being treated. If you're using Frontline, it doesn't seem to have worked for years, and the ones from any pet shop just don't work. Go to your vet and get something else (I think we used Advantage, which did work). If the fleas are in your home, you'll need to treat with Indorex or similar. It works but be careful to have the cats out of the house for a time afterwards (says on the instructions).

After many years working fine, Frontline just stopped working for us a few yrs ago, suddenly, but Frontline still works well for a friend who lives a half mile away.

@KnackeredBack @lljkk I tend to change the brand I use every few months or so - I may resort to veterinarian action!

My other half says to just keep her inside but she's loving life out there.

Yes, cats do pick up fleas even when treated. However, once the flea bites, they die quickly as they ingest the treatment when they bite. My two have a spot-on treatment every four weeks and the only fleas we see are dead or dying.

@Chippychipsandgravy I hope that's the case with my cat. I catch them on the comb and they don't exactly seem too lively.

All of mine are treated regularly but still get fleas as they love the outdoors in the warmer weather. I spray the house a lot, vacuum a lot and it seems to keep it all at bay.

Same issue here. Our cats are treated with On Defence every month and one of our cats is INFESTED at the moment. I’m combing 12-20 fleas off her at a time. I’m at my wits end.

Everything is washed, the whole house is treated but she is just crawling. Our other cat is not (they avoid one another).

I’m going to ring the vet in the morning as I just don’t know what else to do. Would a professional grooming help? They are just moggies but I don’t mind paying.

Also it's often worth spraying carpets and rugs if it's really bad.
