Cat and wet feed

Cat won't touch wet food, I've tried different kinds but no luck

Any ideas?

Just feed dry, there's everything they need in it...plus it's easier and cheaper.

Beamur · 03/08/2023 16:57

Make sure they have access to water as wet food supplies a lot of their needs for hydration. Male or female cat? Males are sometimes more susceptible to urinary issues on dry food.
Have you offered soup type things or the occasional treat like lick-e-lix? Just in case you needed to get wetter food in them occasionally.

Thanks for replies. He's a male, he wasn't ours but seems to have adopted us, isn't chipped and I wanted to make sure he was being fed properly

We've never had a cat before

He's unlikely to suddenly start eating wet food if he hasn't before and it doesn't sound as if he is interested. A decent quality dry food is fine - just check that it's a complete food and that water is always available.

Great, thank you

Any ideas for a good quality dry feed?

My 2yr old cat refuses wet food, I've tried them all, including offering home-cooked chicken, fresh prawns, tuna!

I feed her Thrive, which is high protein and grain free. I order it from Zooplus.

Thank you, I will have a wee look

I just assumed all cats ate wet food

Have you tried gourmet?

LittleMonks11 · 03/08/2023 18:06

Royal Canin

MagpiePi · 03/08/2023 18:13

My surprisingly fussy rescue cat will only eat fish flavoured dry food,(Crave, from Zooplus) but after a lot of trial and error he now also eats Felix soups (fish varieties) and Purina Gourmet Perle Ocean duo in gravy. He won’t touch any jelly wet foods, only the gravy ones.

I leave fresh water for him but he’d rather drink from manky puddles or the bird bath.

Weird creatures!

I feed mine James Wellbeloved dry food which they seem to enjoy.
They do eat wet food but are pretty fussy and only eat a few varieties. They also like a bit of fish/chicken/ham too..

Ibizafun · 03/08/2023 18:28

I mix Applaws, Thrive, and Acana Wild Prarie. Great mix of complete nutrients and my cats can't get enough of it.

caringcarer · 03/08/2023 18:55

Have you tried the ones in jelly as well as the ones in gravy? My cats like the ones in jelly but not gravy. My dogs are the opposite and love meat in gravy.

caringcarer · 03/08/2023 18:57

I cook my cats a chicken breast a couple of times a week so they get half a chicken breast each twice a week. I just pop it in the oven in foil.

caringcarer · 03/08/2023 18:58

My cats also love the tuna in fresh spring water. They share a tin of that each week.

Yes, I've spent a fortune trying all different types for him

As others have said dry food is fine with plenty of water! There's a brand called applaws (can get it in pets at home) it's not a complete food so will need biscuits anyway but it's what I feed cats at the vets (I'm a nurse!) when they're very fussy or poorly. They do chicken, tuna, prawn etc. it's real food not processed. It might be worth trying if you want to mix it up a bit for him. You can just buy single tins so you don't waste buying a load.
