When to claim on insurance?

I have insurance for both my cats. At what price of treatment would you claim on insurance as opposed to paying for the treatment yourself?

For example; I had my cat at the vet today and it cost about £95 for the consultation and treatment. Would you just pay that and not claim or do you claim for all your cat's treatment no matter what the cost?

I dont know whether its usual just to put the big claims through insurance where the cost is a few £100 - a few £1000 as I imagine a claim would increase the next years premium.

Anyway, any thoughts/wisdom about insurance and how it works?

What's the excess on your policy?

I've just checked and the excess is £69 so not worth claiming for this. I've only claimed once before and that was over £300.

I suppose its the balance between getting money back but then the premium increasing so this time I'll just suck up the cost.

I'm glad I have insurance there just in case but it's a lot of money to spend if you don't need to use it. I'm just glad my boy got his cat bite sorted out and hopefully feels better soon

That's great that you've answered your own question. If you need any follow up treatment for this condition, perhaps you can think about claiming then, if it's added up a bit. Glad he's better!
