PDSA Insurance

I'm new to cat 'ownership' - 1 week in, and it is much harder than I bargained for. Fortunately, when they are being as adorable as they are, right now, cuddled up together, I can forgive them for the night time chaos.

I'm just trying to insure them. I like the idea of PDSA, as it fundraises for the work they do.
But why is one cat, the male, so much more expensive? £136, compared to £96 for her. They're from the same litter, so their sex is the only difference.

Can anyone recommend a better insurance? I dismissed Waggles, as the excess is £250, compared to £75. But they do cover dental, whereas the PDSA doesn't.

I use ManyPets for mine

Thanks. They work out at about the same, for both.
I'm just surprised by the different cost of insuring 'twins'.

Boy cats get in more fights, until they are neutered travel much further and are therefore more likely to be hit by a cat. Once they are neutered the majority of them become slobs and get overweight leading to a significant number of them getting urinary
Obstruction due their poor urinary anatomy big tube into small tube does not work!
Girl cats fight less, don't travel as far so have less accidents and have much better urinary tract design.

We use Tesco for our boy, and had to do our first claim this year. They dealt with it very quickly and the excess was only £60. It's £10 a month but for only £2k cover which we found out very quickly disappears! It's due to renew in august and I plan to increase it to £5k

I have Tesco. They are excellent

Tesco were really good when my premium went up to £167 a month. I increased the excess and brought it down to £118. (We've had a lot of claims)

I'll check out Tesco, thanks.

Both cats are neutered , and won't be roaming - in theory. It's one of the conditions of adoption.
But they have other ideas...

I would definitely choose an insurance with dental cover as it can be very expensive. Harry's teeth (and lack of!) cost a fortune over the years.

We're with Tesco and have their highest level of lifetime cover - I pay £10 a month for our 12 week old kitten and that gives us 10k per year ☺️

They do discounts for multi-pet policies too! Our older boys are on a combined policy and we pay £35 for both of them - they're 8 and 3 now so the senior boy has pushed it up a bit. Last year it was £27 I think.

I looked at Tesco but I was put off by reading the premium can double if you make a claim. Although I made loads of claims from Petplan for Harry the payments only ever went up by a few pounds a month, probably because of his age as much as anything.
