Would you investigate (Old boy)

Hi, just after other opinions. Our gorgeous boy is 19 years old and suddenly has lost so much weight. He is still asking for food, possibly drinking more than usual and has started peeing outside/next his litter tray. If I thought for a second he was in any pain I would take him to the vets draught away, however the journey stresses him out so much. I have spoken to the vets who have said they can do some bloods and investigations but I think he is just reaching the end of the road. How much would you have them poked and prodded at 19 or would you just keep them comfortable until the time came to make a decision. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

It's definitely better early. I was possibly too early with my old boy but he went not having been in pain or discomfort and it was only going one way
So for his sake I made the decision early, people said he seemed fine but I would have only been keeping him alive for me. I've not regretted it

Not going to offer advice as I'm sure you have plenty swimming in your head. Just sending solidarity and much love. Obviously the cat lovers are the ones replying. Poor boy.
Hope you're ok. Spoil him rotten while you can 💕

Thank you so much. He is definitely having us all running around after him and relishing in it. Today you wouldn't think there was anything wrong with him even had a play with one of his toys, and going to the toilet in his tray. We have a solid plan for when we are away which has made me feel so much better about the situation. I don't feel rushed to make a decision too early but as soon as there is a decline we will do what is best for him. These fur balls are stressful.

I am so sorry to read you are approaching the end of the road with your lovely wee man. We have an 18 year old who just had a leg amputated after a break...I thought for sure we would have to PTS, but the vet said she would be fine, and she absolutely has been. The advantage you have now is knowing where you are and being able to make your decisions with good knowledge, rather than second-guessing yourself about whether a decision was right.

How's the old man doing? 😺

Not a great deal of change ,but that you for asking. He is sleeping so much but when he is awake he seems ok. DP are on different pages with him at the minute. Still hoping he will choose to go in his sleep. He is a stubborn old man for sure

Awk pet. I know. We've got our first ever boy cat after years of girls and he's just the weirdest, most wonderful character 😂.

At least you know where things stand and what to keep an eye out for. They are so good at masking. We had a cat with cancer a few years ago and she was her usual crazy self (although skinny and q but dishevelled) but she kept her spirits up until the very very end. I understand. Big head scritches and spoil him rotten while you can 😻
