Is this a "kitten farm"

We lost our lovely cat a couple of months ago and are now ready for a new kitten. Due to allergies (and also cos we love them!!) we are after a particular breed. I've found a lady who has a kitten that seems perfect. We arranged a video call where she walked me around and "introduced" me to all her cats. She had a lot. There were probably about 8 queens and maybe 5 stud boys. Also she has 2 current litters. She said we're welcome to go visit whenever, so she's obviously not hiding anything. The cats seemed healthy, clean and happy although obviously the stud boys were kept in separate rooms to the rest. This lady is a vet and will be ensuring any kitten is neutered and vaccinated before they are rehomed. Should I worry though? I've always thought puppy / kitten farm are inherently a bad thing but this didn't feel bad. Am I being stupid? Thank you

She’s a professional breeder by the sounds of it, rather than a kitten farm.
How is she getting the kittens neutered before they go to homes? They don’t generally get done so young, or do you mean the buyers must have them neutered? Wonder how that will be checked & enforced. Sounds very responsible tbh. Ensures there is no back street breeding.

Agree with the above post- sounds like a professional breeder.

Thank you both. That's put my mind at rest. I think it was the having more than 1 litter at once that worried me. She neuters when they get to 1 kilo, if they havent reached that wight by the time they get to 13 weeks, she keeps them longer before re-homing. They are done at her surgery I believe - like I said she is also a vet.

She sounds like a very responsible breeder. Most kitten farm breeders would chuck them at you at 6/8 weeks and not mention anything about neutering

Thank you everyone. That's great news. Yes I thought she seemed great. It's just I've read when a breeder has more than 1 litter it's worth questioning. Her cats all seemed to adore her as well which was nice 🙂

What breed is it? Just curious

You could ask to see her licence as breeders are now regulated.

Sounds like a genuine set up though.

Actually, if you have her name & can verify she is actually a vet that might but your mind at rest.

A vet is very unlikely to run a kitten farm.
