New cat, upset tummy/runny pops -TW cat poo advice needed

We've had the cat 3 weeks, from a rescue. She's 5 years old. Uses litter tray fine.

On Monday she had a couple of runny poos. On Tuesday they began to get harder and less runny. Good dark brown colour. Wednesday I fed her boiled chicken all day. Didn't poo all day (not unusual for her) and was weeing fine. Pooed this morning, mostly normal consistency and colour

Today I gave her her normal wet packet of food in the morning and then this afternoon she has had one very runny and one wet but formed and lumpy poo -this one was more yellow in colour. Both of these poos were not in the litter which is very out of character.

I have given her boiled chicken again for dinner. She is still coming down and meowing at meals times, appetite hasn't been affected. I've not seen her drinking but she has fresh water both downstairs and upstairs which is going down and she is weeing.

All through this time she has been alert playing and exploring. She is still a little cautious being in her new environment and likes to stay in my sons room. Although she is just beginning to explore the rest of the house.

I am thinking that, unless her demeanour changes I can call the vet in the morning for advice/her to be seen.

Is there anything else I should/could be doing?

If keep and sue on her and make sure she's drinking well. I found Probiotic powder really helped with my girls poo. See a vet if it doesn't clear up in a day or so. Or if she's otherwise unwell.

Does she eat dry food too?

I've had cats who just can't tolerate commercial wet food at all but thrive on kibble supplemented with meat scraps (raw and cooked).

She came from the rescue eating felix. She does have some dry treats. But not a bowl of fry food.

As it’s been a few days, call the vet to have her checked over just to make sure she is ok.

Cats can be sensitive to changes in food and some foods in general.

I find purina dry food good.

My cat has a sensitive stomach and he came to me as a kitten on whiskas dry food and he had diarrhoea. I switched him to purina kitten dry food and he was fine.

I find Purina dry food better quality than whiskas dry. They have a ‘sensitive’ adult range which I used when another of my cats was having issues, but their other ranges are good too and one of my cats poos doesn’t honk as much!

I give them whisk as wet as I think the quality is ok of those.

Hope she feels better soon.

She might be reacting to a specific flavour if you are feeding her the same food as the rescue. Could you keep her on the Felix poultry for a week before adding in other flavours?

My rescue cat couldn't have the Felix with shrimp or crab in it. Vomited everywhere, but fine on the others.

PS my vet said to give cats a mainly dry diet.

Dry food makes solid poos which causes the anal glands to empty when they do a poo. 🤣

My cats anal gland was blocked is why I know… I was told less wet food.

Sorry forgot to add. If she’s pooing outside the tray that can indicate pain. They think the litter tray caused the pain so avoid it. Definitely call the vet as litter tray habit changes are always a reason to call them.

Thank you.

I'll give them a call in the morning.
