Lilies - a(nother) warning

Hopefully, you all know how horribly toxic lilies are to cats. I certainly do, which is why we removed them from our garden as soon as we moved in, 9 years ago. I am 100% sure that we haven't planted any since then.

Today, as I was leaving for the school run, I just happened to glance to my left into our back garden and saw, to my absolute horror, a day lily about to bloom.

Did you know they can self seed? I certainly didn't! But apparently they can - either that, or remain dormant for a very long time. Needless to say, it's now gone, out by the roots.

I'm not much of a gardener so I didn't notice it growing, in amongst all the other greenery we have, and only recognised when I saw the flower buds. Luckily, Peanut isn't interested in chewing leaves, but I reckon it would have opened tomorrow, and then there would have been pollen everywhere.

It's been a really nasty scare - please be aware, even if you think you don't have any.

Am glad to hear you got to it in time!

Just to add to your reminder: Cats Protection have produced a really great set of resources to help ensure cat owners have the knowledge to keep their homes & gardens feline-friendly. They even have a list of places you can order pet-safe flowers & houseplants from online.
