Hi all so our kitten Blossom is now 14 weeks and is amazing apart from a poo problem. When we first brang her home she instinctively peed in her litter tray but would poop on the carpet outside my bedroom. We popped a second litter tray there after reading advice on here. She continued to poop on the carpet so we trained her by scooping it up and placing it in the litter tray and popping her in too. After a few days of this she started using the tray to poop herself. However she’s now back to going outside my bedroom door on the carpet. I tried blocking it off but she then went outside my daughter’s room.

im not sure what to do. She now has 3 litter trays. She will pee in all 3 but continues to poop only on the floor in the hallway upstairs. Never any incidents downstairs where it is all hard flooring - she seems to prefer the carpet texture I guess?

if I follow her around watching for the signs she is about to poop I can pop her in the litter tray. She’ll jump straight back out but If I put her straight back she will ‘give in’ and use it but it takes many attempts. I can’t do this everyday as I work. Just in case it helps, we use catsan. She’ll happily pee and then dig/cover with this.

Any suggestions?

I’m just guessing but is it worth getting a piece of carpet and putting that in a tray?

It may be she doesn’t like the sensation of the cat litter in her claws when she tries to burry her poo? Does she bury her pee, or is it a squat and leave? If so then the sensation of the litter won’t matter when she pees.

Perhaps try different types of cat litter? You may end up with lots of cat trays around the house filled with different litter. But it is only temporary.

If she still only uses the carpet litter tray, then the usual suggestion is to start gradually adding a little of the cat litter onto of the carpet one until it’s all cat litter.

There are some cats that will only use a clean tray, so you have to clean and remove soiled litter after every pee or poo. I believe there’s also a smell that lingers after, that makes animals revisit a spot. You’ll have to use something with enzymes that will neutralise the smell from her favourite spot on your carpet.

Lastly, maybe check her paws, see if she’s particularly sensitive there.

Shes very beautiful and her face is saying that you are a liar and she has never ever pooed on a carpet in her life! And it was the dog. Or a dog. Or something else, but not her. Never. No!

Have you thoroughly cleaned the area with the special deo cleaner for toilet issues ? You can buy on Amazon.
Basically there is always an odour that is left and you need to make sure it's completely gone and the only way is using these neutralising sprays. I'd also recommend placing something over the space so she can't go there easily.
Other things to try are different types of litter (like try a different brand or texture in one of the trays) and also my older cat likes a different pee tray and poo tray and also likes it cleaned promptly and will come and meow until it's done!

Thanks all so to answer the questions/suggestions so far…..

Yes I’ve been cleaning the area with simple solutions from pets at home yet she still continues to go in that area.

I’ve tried blocking with an object but she then just does it next to or near by.

Yes she does does dig to bury her pee sometimes though often just squats and off …

I would try a different cat litter. Ours doesn't like the good stuff that we want to use as it's easier for us to handle - she likes the cheap stuff that doesn't absorb the smells as well 🙄

Tried a new litter last night …. Nope still pooped in the carpet ☹️

I found simple solutions to be useless and use 1001

Spray Feliway where she’s been doing a poo.

Spray Feliway where she’s been doing a poo.

I though this was for stress? She doesn’t seem stressed! I’ll try it though …
