Our cat is being terrorised!

Over the past few months, a new entire male (or at least he looks entire - we call him Billy Big Balls!) has been stalking our female tabby. She is neutered, so no fear of kitties, but he is obsessed by her.
Things then progressed to him sneaking in, when the back door is open, and stealing her food. We chase him out but he is not deterred.
A week ago, Maia didn't come home at night which is unusual for her as she rarely stays out at night....by 8.30am we were really worried, but then she turned up, soaking wet and with a damage to her tail. A trip to the vet, antibiotics, Metacam and £140 later revealed that something had bitten her tail. They actually thought it might have severed the nerves as the tail was dragging and they did mention amputation - but over time, she can now raise her tail again and it is healing well, thank goodness.

We are now beginning to think that it was Billy Big Balls that bit her because yesterday he chased her through our garden and she got stuck in our neighbours tree! Then, today my grown up daughter saw BBB actually attack Maia and grab her as she tried to get back into our house. He is becoming increasingly violent with her and she is becoming scared to even leave her house. I don't want to have to keep the doors closed in the good weather either.

I know that it is no good trying to find out whose cat it is because they have no control over his behaviour, so that isn't an option.
I am going to order a big water pistol/super soaker gun to try and discourage him that way, but do any of you have any other ideas what I can do to protect my poor little girl?

Pic of Maia attached as I know this is the done thing on The Litter Tray!!

I would be making friend of BBB, capturing him, and taking him to the vets for a little operation.

Tell no one.

Unfortunately while cats have the right to roam, there's nothing you can do about the other cat.

But if you own your home, you could cat-proofing your garden so Maia has free access to it but can't get out and other cats can't get in? It's a bit restrictive if she's used to roaming but so much safer.

I know someone who was in the same situation. The woke up at 6.00 am to two cats fighting on their bed. The attacking cat was wrapped up in a blanket and dumped 20 miles away..

He will be a stray - we borrowed a trap from the RSPCA - as one of the strays who used to come into our house looked to have an injured eye - we used tuna as bait. After successfully trapping one of our dopey cats THREE times, we caught the two stray boys within a week.

Rspca neutered them, asked if they were not rehomable could they be released back in our garden as it was territory they knew. Post neutering they would not be so bold. One was stunningly handsome and we said yes, hoping we could tame him. Sadly for us, once neutered they both turned into perfectly nice, cuddly, cats and were rehomed very quickly.

So contact a local animal charity and ask to borrow a trap.

Sorry surely this is not true if it is that is appalling. I have a cat currently being terrorised by next doors cat, it follows her into the house. Not sure what you can do. I just shoo the cat out as soon as I see him, I either shut the door or shoo him out of our garden.
I think my cat is a bit faster (and not so fat) so mainly gets away.
We are on good terms with neighbours and they are very good at retrieving their cat and very apologetic.

Thank you for all your replies.
Sounds like a tale as old as time, with no possible solution!

We don't think he is a stray - he looks fit and healthy, and is probably from a house nearby-ish.
Our garden can't be cat-proofed, unfortunately, because we have one entire side, between us and our neighbour, that is literally just open 'trellis' fencing so impossible to stop other cats coming through the holes.

Looks like I will just have to become a hot-shot with a Super-soaker and scare him off every time he shows up!
He even sneaks in and eats her food! If she is in the house, she will just watch him do it as she is clearly too scared to confront him. Seems that the doors and French windows will just have to be closed even in the hot weather.

This has gone on for months now, so I suppose we just have to hope that he gets bored at some point!
