I was woken up by my cat about 40 minutes ago. He brought a mouse into my bedroom, which after playing with, he's then lost interest in and fucked off!
Meanwhile since then I've been sat waiting for a mouse to come out from under my bed (I t’s ottoman style and full up so too heavy to move) so . My other cat is in here now but she's a bit of a chocolate teapot.
If I can't catch this mouse what do I do??

I've just bought one of these humane mouse traps for the house guest living behind my washing machine. My plan is to relocate it to the thicket at the bottom of the garden, hopefully far enough away not to come back. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/MotelMouse/MotelMouse/page/3F12CDB0-12AB-4474-B154-161EE6D3EE3A

Can you fit anything under the bed like an extendable tape measure to poke the mouse out with? Ideally you then need someone with a big cardboard box at one end then sweep the tape measure towards them hopefully disturbing the mouse. If it comes out and you lose it elsewhere in the room try to block up around the bed so it can't get back under.
If that fails, humane trap with something sweet like mars bar on it. Keep your bedroom door shut so you can be sure what room it's in.
Sympathies, my cats do this to me all the time.

Thanks for your advice both, I think I’ll buy a humane trap as recommended.
He has form for this sort of thing. Usually I manage to catch it [mouse/bird/frog] and let it go, though I am still left the occasional ‘present’.
I suppose I should be thankful I woke up. if he brings mice in without me knowing will it be obvious? I feel a bit paranoid about it now.

Yeah it's a horrible feeling isn't it! Ours used to be shut in at night partly for this reason. Usually if they bring something in they wake me up twatting about with it and meowing but we have had the occasional one turn up dead on the floor, I think they die of shock or lack of food and water pretty quick.

Oh god it can take days for one of mine to finish off a mouse she's brought it.

The other one doesn't do playing - everything's dead at first wallop.

From experience there are 2 main options:
Kill mouse by hitting it. This is much easier than you think, we used to keep a cardboard tube for this purpose.
Capture mouse by putting large plastic tub over it. You can then slide a sheet of cardboard underneath and carry the whole contraption outside to release the mouse.

Option 3 - let cat finish it off can be torturous for both the mouse and you and often ineffective.

If he brings mice in without me knowing will it be obvious?

It will be as either you will see the mouse (and sudden cat activity) or the mouse will die. The smell of rotting mouse is unmistakeable.

I bought a humane trap from Amazon. Hung a bit of rice cake covered in peanut butter on the hook, and the mouse was caught in the early hours of the morning. Released it, and it never returned.

Thanks again everyone. I think the trap is definitely the way to go. I’ve been scooping them up in my Pyrex jug (a la spider) but they’re so quick it takes a good few attempts to get the timing right.
I definitely couldn’t kill a mouse. They are just so beautiful! Every one the cats brings home one of my dd wants to keep!
