A new one from local cat charity - one more reason I can't adopt a cat!

Hi, having just filled in an initial form for a local cat charity I have been told I cannot have an animal from them as I have an un neutered dog in my household! Has anyone else come across this one?

Battersea, the RSPCA and Cats Protection wont rehome to us as we have a cat proofed garden and cats should be able to roam. Now I appreciate not every cat will take to living in a small flat with a confined garden (I sadly know from experience) but this is a blanket no. When I spoke to Battersea they confirmed that was their policy and went on to tell me they were full and had a waiting list! I felt like saying 'no shit, try being more reasonable and you might rehome a few cats' but kept my mouth shut.

We love a cat proofed garden! How many cats do you want delivered?

I rehomed from a smaller rescue
My first cat came from CPL, and was fostered by a lovely lady. She left and set up her own rescue
I lost my first cat a few weeks ago and a cat came into the rescue on the same day, the rescue run by the CPL lady. Very serendipitous
They rehomed to me without a home check or anything this time

So far I've narrowed it down to 4! Stanley, Alfie, Sonny and Bobby. I'm also in love with Wolfie but don't think I could take on a cat with heart problems so soon after losing Harry to the same thing.

@CheeseandTrees
I think vera is desperate to venture outside. We have a lovely rear garden but a busy road out front although it's a 30mph limit. How do you ensure she stays safe at the back

I was laughed at for suggesting I try and 'garden train' my kitten. We just sat out with him each and every time he went out and brought him in if he tried to scale the wall. He does venture over to next doors garden for a mooch if their dogs aren't out but doesn't go any further. I still wouldn't leave him completely unsupervised but I can potter in the kitchen keeping an eye out. He has his favourite spots to chill and he likes shimmying up the trampoline net from time to time. He is also quite the fly catcher!
He enjoys the fresh air and the garden is quite big so he gets good exercise.
Will start the process all over again when the littlest has had his vaccinations. Although he may be more of a challenge!

We tried to adopt a rabbit once. The people running the place were nutters, sadly...
