Elderly cat started pooping on lawn

Hi

My elderly cat had started popping on the lawn . I don't know wether it's because the ground is hard and he can't dig a hole or maybe he's finding it hard to dig ? Is there anything I can do to deter him

Litter tray indoors?

Mine did this at 18. Then it moved inside - all over the carpets in the house and it wasn't an easy consistency to clear up if you know what I mean. Someone more knowledgeable will come along I'm sure but I think a lot of older cats get kidney problems and I think it might be linked to that. We had a about a year of this and it kind of marked the beginning of the end. I hope that's not the case for you.

Possibly it's softer? Maybe put a litter tray in the garden and see

Mine did this when he got old. He wasn’t able to get to the usual spots for digging as he was too old and arthritic. Possible a sign his health has deteriorated. Worth a vet checking him out?

  1. Be happy he's doing it outside and not on your floors. It's probably more comfortable for him.

Litter tray in the house if it's bothering you

gamerchick · 15/06/2023 11:55

Dunno why it's formatted like that.

It'll be because of comfort or pain I suspect.

Vet check and a litter tray if it bothers you.

He did it again tonight . I noticed his poop was a light grey putty colour . He had no problems going . He's eating and drinking ok but feels quite bony on his spine . He is regularly wormed .

Thanks for the litter tray tip outside . I will try that . He doesn't come in the house now it's summer .

He's 18 so I'm guessing we're coming towards the end sadly . I will be keeping a close eye on him . He seems happy and still goes for a daily wander but cant climb fences anymore .

He is in his twilight years but at his age he is the equivalent of human mid-80s! I don't see many old men climbing fences where I come from LOL. My old girl is coming up for 18 and has a swelling under her eye that may be a tumor or a growth, but without getting her put out and biopsied we won't know. If it causes her a problem I will get it looked at again (vet has already been involved and is on meds for her arthritis) but until then its business as usual.

Maybe your old boy just needs a bit of pain killer for the back legs? Millie is on Gabapentin and Loxicom low dose, It makes such a difference. There is a drug called Solensia which, when given monthly, is like giving them a new lease of life. Its given by injection by a vet and some oldies have begun climbing the stairs when they couldn't before. It isn't cheap (around £75 each month) but may be worth looking into?

Not sure about the poo colour but I'd say if he is still going without a problem then he's doing alright. I would be more worried if it was blood streaked or difficult to do.
