The catflap is locked... Wish me luck

Posted before about other cats somehow getting in the microchip cat flap. Turns out they're super smart and can pull the flap open from the other side.

Boy and girl cat have been kept awake most of the day, the flap is locked and covered in tin foil. Hoping a few nights of no entry will stop the intruders.

Our cats are mega night time explorers and zoomers and I am not looking forward to the first night of them being locked in!

You might need an actual barricade in front of the flap if they are determined to get out.

We lock the door to the kitchen where the catflap is. Simple hook and eye fastening screwed into the door. Our old boy simply hauled the catflap out of the door. Couldn't believe he'd done it. Now we deny access to the entire room!

We're all open plan so nothing to shut in!

The manual lock / tinfoil was an overnight success. I still wonder what I'll come home to though!

Hoping a few nights of this will make our visitors lose interest.

I have never known random cats to be able to access another cat's microchip cat flap. Have they thumbs?!

I always said my old DC was stupid, as that's how he opened catflaps too - went out head first, used his claws to open it and duck under to get in.

I think you can buy catflaps that scan both ways. That might prevent the intruders, if the current system doesn't work?

It's insane! I think they're hooking their claws into the actual flap and just pulling it back. There's literally no other way for them to get in. I thought they might be sneaking in behind our before it locked but they got in while my 2 were on the bed.

That's going to have to be the next thing @CatsOnTheChair !

we had a stray monster cat that was breaking in through out magnetic cat flap. Our three just sat and stared at him whilst he wolfed down all the leftover food and emptied the biscuits. He used to wait until we'd gone to bed before he broke in and just barge through.

We had a visitor last summer. He seemed very sweet and must have been checking for the resident dictators' nap times, as he only wandered in when they were sound asleep.

On the last occasion, he came into the living room and my 'Oh, hello' must have woken the Ancient One, roughly nine and a half ounces when wringing wet of senile confusion and fluff. She screamed like a Banshee at him, the other one woke up and came thundering halfway down the stairs before stopping dead in horror, the visitor legged it and has stayed resolutely on the back wall where he's safe from screaming harridans ever since.

The irony is that the puff of fluff was originally welcomed into the house by the then resident cats when her original owners decided they didn't want her anymore. Charity is clearly a one way thing with her.

We did that once. DH put 3 cases of Budweiser in front of the cat flap to try to keep Harry in. We heard a noise from the kitchen and Harry was hauling them out of the way!

A neighbour's cat used to break into our microchip cat flap. I watched him do it once, hooking his claw behind the flap and pulling it open towards him.

We now have one controlled by microchips in both directions. He was very pissed off when we first installed it.

But another cat (a stray Tom, we believe) has tailgated one of our cats through the new cat flap twice now. And then panicked when he discovered he couldn't get back out.
