Baby birds

My one year old cat has killed two baby birds in two days. Day time hunting rather than evening/night. I'm feeling really mixed feelings. Mostly it's horrible that he's using them as play things afterwards. Do I have to accept this? Any advice?

You cant really stop it, he only plays with him because he hasn't been taught by his mum to kill prey quickly so to him it's a toy not food.

Mice and baby birds are natures buffet. If the cat didnt catch them a buzzard or kestral would get them.

It is horrible but baby bird season is short.
Hunting instinct in cats is strong.
Feed your cat a really high quality, high protein diet - it can reduce the urge a bit.
Play with your cat more, it mimics hunting behaviour.
When he has a dead bird, distract him, remove the dead thing and reward with some play or treats. There's no point punishing the cat for natural behaviour.
