Velvet sofas - Will they be destroyed?

Not sure if this should be in property, but I think I need cat owners.
We are looking to replace the sofa, add an armchair or two, basically complete redecoration of the living room.
Children are at Uni so less likely to destroy soft furnishings, so it is just the cats...

We definately want fabric sofas, ideally I want a gorgeous ruby red. Just worried about the cats, they have a scratching post which they use, they have outdoors, they only scratch the rug a bit and the carpet outside the bathroom if I am in there.

Has anyone had velvet sofas which have not been destroyed?

Our bastard cat has never scratched the velvet. I think there’s no resistance / fun with a velvety finish

The other thing I found has helped is offering the cats something that they can scratch, so they have the cat tree and I have a couple of sisal carrier bags that I bought in the local chemist and my pair absolutely love scratching on those. Those are fair game.

I have a velvet chair/footstool and a velvet pouf.

My rescue cats were not to be allowed access....

Only they both bloody loved the chair/footstool so I covered it with a throw and left them to it.

I covered the pouf with glossy magazines so they would slide off.... but guess what, the younger kitty loves to stretch out full length on it and I have given up!

I've just bought a velvet sofa and neither cat have scratched it yet (I've had it for a week) but previous fabric sofa was essentially a scratching post for them!

The sofa I got is from Snug and their website says "our fabric options are claw-friendly and talon resistant. With no open weave, you don’t have to think about your pets claws getting trapped within the material and pulling the stitches away from the cushion. Snagging is therefore less likely to happen, and your sofa will continue to look good as new, despite being used as a glorified dog bed by your pampered pooch."

Neither of our kittens have touched the velvet sofa. However, the end of dd's divan bed is an absolute mess as they go in and give it a morning claw when I go to wake her up for school...
