I've read varying things. Puss is coming upto a week post op now.

None of our dogs or cats, ever wore or needed a cone after castration. It's a very tiny neat scar. IIRC there were no external stitches.

Oh, really? The vet said 2 weeks. But I've read alot of people online saying 5 to 7 days.

2 weeks seems like such a long time and his bits look fine now!

He's getting so fed up at being unbalanced and he's got stuck a few times under the couch because of the cone which worries me.

None of mine wore them and we've 5. They just hate them and luckily none licked their wounds.

My boy was castrated today and they said he wouldn't need a cone because the wound is so small.

When my dogs have been spayed, I’ve gotten surgical recovery suits instead of Elizabethan collars (cones) and they’ve worked well.

I have used an inflatable “donut” style E-collar that also worked well. My dog could rest on it very comfortably. I’m not sure how compatible that is with cat claws and such though.

I hope your cat feels better super quickly!

My boy didn’t get a cone, my girl got a cone when she was spayed but it traumatised her so much we took it off first night & she was fine.

My boy didn’t have a cone when he was “done”. I’d take it off if I were you.

HoldingTheDoor · 30/05/2023 22:39

I'd take it off now, 2 weeks is ridiculous and I've found that most animals don't even require a cone for such a small wound. Most of mine barely even looked at it.

Thankyou so much. That was my instinct but I was worried about going against vets advice.

Neither of my boy cats wore one. Mine had stomach surgery recently and I didn't put one on him then he left it alone.
