Should I get this cat flap (not chipped!)

We are moving to a new house, and can't find anywhere to put the cat flap other than the front door! Trust me on this one. (It's possible we could go through a wall in our front room but DH is against going through the masonry -- is he right?)

I really hate the look of the cat flap on the front door though. I did find these (Tomsgates) which look ace and can be painted to match, but there's no microchip in them. The company says it isn't necessary for various reasons (they blend in, etc.). I'm not as worried about other cats getting in (though I do worry about this) but as much as a rodent or even (eek) a small fox.

Any thoughts? Many thanks!

Our catflap is in the front door. It's a microchip one

No way would I get a catflap without a chip.
Ours tells us if the cat is out or in etc Really useful when we are away. We also give the cats a curfew so they stay in at night.
Imho those wooden ones are ugly. Lots of rubber on it isn't pretty.

I've never seen the wooden ones before - they look "cute" as far as cat flaps go. We have a standard plastic cat flap on our back door. No microchip, haven't had a problem with anything coming through it other than our cat, and we live in quite a wildlife abundant area! My mum has moved and inherited a cat flap though and another cat follows her cat into the house . I guess it really depends on what else is living on the street!

I wouldn't. We have a lot of trouble with a particular neighbourhood cat using ours. Unfortunately it's an off size and I can't find a chip one to work with it.

We have a cat flap through a wall, it's fine. Used to be non chip but we had to switch to a microchip one because of our local Bad Cat coming in and terrorising ours, not to mention pissing everywhere.

I am really struggling to get my older rescue cat to use a flap that she can see through. I can't imagine her being happy to go through something she couldn't see through. It looks lovely but I thought most cats like to see outside before they go out?

I have a microchip reader cat flap and after some initial resistance they use them fine. They did need training though with cat treats placed on the tunnel. They do like to be able to see through.

Thanks all! I think I'll get someone in to see if we can go through a wall rather than the front door. DH is against it, but you have convinced me it should be chipped. Thank you!
