TW: Cat Poo Pic. Is this some kind of parasite?

Hi all,

Apologies for the photo in advance - not sure how else to show you what concerns me.

I have a female rescue cat, ex-feral. I’ve had her around 6 weeks. She has previously had a skin cancer removed from her neck (don’t think that’s too relevant). She’s a house cat now, as it was very unusual for a grey cat to develop skin cancer. She doesn’t go outside at all. Rescue told me they thought she was around 4 years old.

She’s a very small Domestic Long Hair. She honestly looks like a kitten, she’s so tiny, but her long coat seems to disguise how small she really is

She came home from the foster house via the vets for her first set of vaccs (my other cat is a flu carrier so wanted to get her course started asap). The vet weighed her and at that appointment she was 2.3kg. The vet thought she was a kitten on first seeing and handling her - only when she checked her mouth did she agree with the rescues estimated age - due to the tartar build up on her teeth.

When we went back a few weeks later for the second set of vacs she’d gone up to 2.78kg.

Over the past couple of weeks as she’s got braver and allowed me to stroke and handle her I’ve been quite alarmed by how skinny she is under her floof. I’d started to worry that after the removal of the skin cancer, that enough hadn’t been done to exclude further spread of it elsewhere in her body.

She has a great appetite and is always eating.

This morning I’ve emptied her litter tray and see some kind of stringy zig-zag wormy looking thing in her poop, now I’m wondering if she could actually have some kind of parasite burden causing her low body weight, despite her appetite?

Pics attached of both poop and little girl cat (and her big lumbering brother relaxing in the background).

Hopefully someone might be able to advise if this looks like a worm or parasite of some description.

Could it be a foreign body that she's eaten?

Probably best to check with the vet as they can run tests. Is she insured?

I have a tiny princess cat (about 3 kilos) who is actually a Secret Fatty as she has a lot of visceral fat (according to the vet when they opened her up) so looks can be deceiving.

I honestly can’t place what it would be if it was a FB. I did wonder about one of those sandwich bag ties with the wire in the middle but I don’t have any of those kind of things in the house, to my knowledge, and the wire isn’t normally in zig zag.

She is insured, but not for anything that could be considered a complication of her previous cancer diagnosis.

Ahh, I’m pretty sure she is a very small cat anyway, but she is incredibly bony under all her floof. I’m going to have a good feel of her next time she comes and sits on the bed with me, as I’ve had a google at what sort of landmarks I’m looking for in terms of where fat pads should be, etc.

Have spoken to the vets, they are going to prescribe her a worming treatment in the first instance, and then I can book to take her in next week to be weighed and hopefully we can keep an eye on her weight for a few months.

She seems fine in herself, eating well, empties the water fountain rapidly, using the litter tray for regular pees and poops and is always triggering my cat cams exploring the house when I’m not home.

If she is drinking a lot, has she been checked for kidney issues, diabetes, and hyperthyroid? We’ve had cats with all of the above and low weight while eating plenty, along with being very thirsty, applied to all of them.
