Cat proofing the garden

After sadly losing our lovely cat to an RTA we're considering cat-proofing the garden. Has anyone done this without it looking like a prison? If so what did you use? Also I'm worried about other cats getting in and being trapped because they can't get out again, or ours somehow getting out and not being able to get back! Any tips or advice please?

We have two Maine coons that we like confined to our garden. We used trellis on end on the top of the fence, but they got out on the fence posts. So we bought planters for the fence posts, chicken wire behind. Then we have a strip of plastic net coming out on brackets.

It does look a little prison like, but as the plants grow, it does get softened.

Fingers crossed it seems to work, but it does feel like the raptors testing the perimeter fence each day!

You can get roller systems, they use similar abroad to keep coyotes out.

We have used small amount of fencing and gate from Purrfect Fencing to block our patio as a cat proof space. It is a bit prison yard looking but worth it for peace of mind.

Animals can also get their legs trapped in the rolling mechanism.

We cat proofed to keep a violent Bengal cat out of our garden and away from our own animals. Yes it does look a bit prison-like, but the only person who ever moaned about it is the Bengal's owner who neglects the cat dreadfully (no garden just a patio, no litter tray, no toys, no attention, no cat flap ...).

Just make sure your neighbours still have enough light / sunlight, and that there's nothing dangerous.

We used Securacat, but it was years ago.
