Alternative to easy pill

My cat needs blood tests and a good check over but she does not like being handled and when I got her to the vet last week (after a lot of work to get her into her basket…) they wouldn’t examine her because of how she was. She is very aggressive when handled/scared.

The vet suggested trying easy pill to see if she’d eat the putty so I could put tablets in that to sedate her, but although she’s sniffed it she won’t take it. I live alone so there’s no way I could get tablets in her mouth, and I doubt I’d be able to even with someone’s help either (and no one wants to help because they know what she’s like).

Has anyone tried anything similar to get tablets in? I think because I tried putting some medicine in her food last week she’s a bit suspicious of new things anyway at the moment which doesn’t help…

Have you youtubed different ways to pill your cat?

Toddlerteaplease · 15/05/2023 09:34

I used a pill syringe with my cat who had eight pills a day. However she was exceptionally cooperative!

Hi OP,

None of mine have ever gone for EasyPill but all but one of them have liked Pill Pockets which I used to buy from Amazon and use half a pocket to wrap around each pill. And the chicken flavour ones were much more popular than the salmon ones here!

Also, if the tablets are crushable (and obviously some can't be crushed) then you could also try mixing in with some lik-e-lix or something similar that your kitty likes

Gymmum82 · 15/05/2023 09:43

If you can’t get them in to her tell the vets they will have to put her in a crush cage and sedate her.
Have you tried putting them in to her favourite food instead of a cat treat? Tuna? Cheese? Palma ham? Whatever she loves put them in a small amount of that and hope for the best. Make sure you squash the food round the tablets as much as poss

Pill pockets and if they don’t work try some liver paste, or adding a bit of liver paste to the pill pocket. Good luck!

Try oil , the type you get tuna and Mackrell in hopefully the fishy flavour + slippynes will help them go down.
Like pp said if they can be crushed then mix it with oil

Thank you, I’ll look into pill pockets and might try tuna too!

id be quite happy for them to use a crush cage if needed, though I don’t know how they’d get her out of mine and into one. I did hope that after finally getting her into the carrier last week they’d do something then but now I’ll need to try all over again this week…

My cats have always eaten anything if it's mixed into a sachet of lick-e-lix

JoanOgden · 15/05/2023 15:54

Would it be worth trying to find a vet who will do home visits?

This worked for my furry overlord!

Loverofoxbowlakes · 18/05/2023 19:23

Crush and lik-e-lix for ours, 100% success rate.

ClarasZoo · 18/05/2023 19:26

Another vote for crush and lick I lix-that stuff is crack for cats!

Ionacat · 18/05/2023 19:36

Crushed and lik-ee-licks here too. Other thing we’ve done is crushed into marmite and wiped it onto to a paw for them to lick off.
