Not my cat!

Two cats, like to come and go as they please. Had them 10 years and use an open car flap which was already there when we moved in and is massive. I've tried replacing it but can't find one big enough.

Few months ago a cat started coming in and eating my cats food. He's now venturing around the house (runs when he sees us). Mine are nervous but useless. They just watch him eat their tea.

Is there anything I can do?

Def can't afford a microchip cat flap (or a new door to fit it) and mine won't wear collars (so can't get one of this to activate a cat flap)

Am at a loss. Really don't want to have a third cat.

Could you get microchip feeders, they only open for selected cats. I have one its pretty good and the batteries last ages

Is it a stray cat?

Sorry no advice, but I love your title.

No, it's a neighbours cat. Looking at the size of him, it might not be just my house he's using as as a snack stop. Neighbour is utterly unapproachable and not worth the hassle of telling him his cat is a Lardy food thief.

Genius. Thank you. I'll investigate this further.

I think although he's had a nice wander round our house a few times, he's food motivated so if I stop the food, it might deter him.

You dont need a collar for a microchip catflap. If your cats have microchips then it's activated by them.

dementedpixie · 09/05/2023 21:38

What size is the flap you have?
Is it more of a pet door than a catflap?
Microchip feeders are expensive too

helpfulperson · 09/05/2023 21:42

if you can't afford a microchip cat flap you certainly won't be able to afford microchip feeders - I was amazed at the cost of them Two certainly cost more than my cat flap.

Can you just put catfood down for your cats when you are there to supervise? I've never tried it but I've seen that they will adapt their habits if food is not just left down all the time.

Does the existing flap have a brand name on it?
