Re-homing cat due to allergies

We have a 5 year old dc. Kids have left home, but youngest is at uni and in theory dc belong to her!

We got home from a holiday last year and my oh became ill. It took us a long time to realise that it was a cat allergy as he hadn't had it before; it just started out of the blue. He has tried various medication, but they either don't agree with him or just don't seem to help.

We have decided (very reluctantly) that we'll have to re-home the dc.

I wanted to ask how to do this in the kindest possible way. I mean for the cat - obviously it will be awful to give away a much loved pet, but I mean so it will have the least possible long term negative impact on our poor innocent dc.

Please be kind. We have had many conversations about this, but my oh is really quite poorly and we can't keep putting it off.

Have you tried petal Cleanse on cats fur?
There is also an anti allergy cat food that helps us it's called live clear.

I would seek proper allergy testing first. It might not be the cat.

Then, if you do re-home, Blue Cross do a home to home thing where the cat stays with you until they identify a suitable new home, which is considerably better for the cat as it avoids a spell in a rescue cattery. Do not re-home privately.

Thank you both. I'll look into your suggestions.
