How old do you think my kitten is?

When we got her we were told she was 8 weeks, however she was tiny. We didn't expect her to be so small. We took her for her first vaccinations at 9 and a half weeks and she weighed 0.3kg. We just took her for her 2nd vaccinations at 12 weeks and the vet said "are you sure she's 12 weeks?" I said well that's what the breeder said. I had to wait a couple of weeks once she was advertised online as the lady told me she wouldn't be ready to leave until 8 weeks old.

He weighed her today at 12 weeks and she weighs 1kg. I'm worrying now that she's actually younger than we thought. I mean it's ok.. it's just that she shouldn't have left her mum if that's the case. Would this have any detrimental affects on her at all? She is perfectly healthy and active and doing normal kitten things but she's just very small.

Of course she could just be a small cat, but for the vet to mention it it's not got me wondering. I've included some pictures of her at 8 weeks when we got her, although it's probably hard to tell on pics. But from people who have experience with kittens does this seem right for that age? (Please ignore Xmas sheets we literally just threw down a load of blankets and cozy stuff on the spare bed for her ha!)

The two smaller (but not runt) kittens in a litter I had weighed 1.2kg at 12 weeks so I think it’s possible she is that age but just a very small kitten. She’s adorable!

Hard to tell from your pictures OP but looks like she has blue eyes in them? Their eyes change from blue to their adult colour around 7/8 weeks.

she looks adorable

Cats ideally should stay with mum until 12 weeks , or at least that’s the norm for good breeders . That said some cats are tiny and stay small .

Ours was the same, I thought she was 2 weeks behind what we were told as she was so light but now she's 3 and still a dainty but clearly fully grown cat.

One of my cats was absolutely tiny when we got her. When we took her to get neutered at 4 months and she was just under 2kg and then vet made us sign a waiver because she was so small. Her brother was completely average size.
They're nearly 4 now and she is still absolutely tiny. Light as a feather with tiny little paws. She's adorable. While her brother is a gigantic monster.

I had a litter and one of the kittens was tiny, he went to live with a family member who’s vet asked her the same question (was she sure of kittens age). In this case she was sure obviously but had I sold the kitten then they might have doubted me.
He had ended up quite a large cat, way bigger than his mother.

Ah, thanks for all the responses. Seems like she could just be a small little thing then. Was worrying that she had been taken from mum too soon! Thanks everyone

Ideally kittens should stay till 12 weeks with Mum as that is when the Mum cat naturally finishes caring for her kittens. We adopted a pregnant rescue cat and when her kittens were 12 weeks it was like a switch went and she stopped nurturing them.
However, we have also rescued kittens roughly 3 weeks old who were found without their mother and they did just fine.
Your kitten looks gorgeous and sounds like fabulously health just potentially a little on the small side. Enjoy the cuddles.

In the photos she looks identical to how my cat looked when he was 6 weeks old.
