My cat keeps pee-ing on the kitchen side!

And it's disgusting

I have tried feliway, I have tried foil. I have put food on the side (my logic being she wouldn't pee where her food is). I have tried all the various cleaners. Nothing has worked. Today I blocked off the side completely, so she peed on another side instead. She doesn't appear ill, but I am waiting for the vets to call me back, but wanted to know if anyone has gone through this and stopped it, because I'm beyond disgusted by it.

We are in a multi-cat house, but this behaviour is new and the cats aren't.

Sometimes she appears to be spraying rather than peeing, but it's definitely peeing today.

Thanks!

Mine does it on the floor next to her litter tray. We have tried everything and it’s been going on for years. I really don’t know what the answer is. We’ve had multiple vet trips, blood tests etc and nothing found. I think the first step for you is take her to the vets and get her checked over.

how many litter trays do you have? Have you tried different litters?

Honestly we’re at the point where we’re considering having ours PTS. It’s so hard to live with. No one will want to re-home an old ish cat who wees on the floor everyday.

She pees outside and has done for years. I suppose I could get her a litter tray and see if that changes things.

If you haven’t had them checked out by a vet then you should do so urgently. Change in behaviour like this is a sign that something is definitely wrong - whether it be an illness or a behavioural concern. It needs to be taken seriously for their well-being. Cats mask pain very successfully.

Cats peeing inside can be so complicated. Do you have insurance? Our pet insurance covered a visit from a cat behavioural expert once we'd exhausted the vet/illness route.

Our cat doesn't pee outside and we think it's because of the number of foxes in the area that sometimes come into our garden at night. Could you have new garden visitors? (Behaviour lady got us to put up a camera outside so we could see what was happening at night)

We need to keep her litter trays meticulously clean for her to use them reliably too. So clumping litter that gets checked 2x a day and a full clean regularly.

I'd get a litter tray and stop her having access to the kitchen at all for the time being. We don't allow our cat access at all to the room that has the nice sofas and she hasnt peed outside her litter trays for at least a year, but im not taking any chances🙄

You can buy an oral syringe in the chemists, use it to suck the wee up and give it to the vets. They can dip it for bacteria or you can buy strips off eBay/amazon and do it at home to rule out infection. My guess is that the vet would need to do their own dip before prescribing antibiotics though.

Definitely get a tray and ultra clumping litter, if she’s decided she now goes indoors there is no changing her mind.

She needs to see a vet.

Inappropriate urination is a sign of multiple medical conditions, including cystitis, a UTI, bladder crystals and even kidney problems.

Once all medical problems are ruled out, then you can work on dealing with it as a behavioural problem.

My friend's cat kept peeing on the side and in the sink and it turned out to be a UTI so I would get yours checked out by the vet

Does she wee in various places or only next to the litter tray? If it’s the latter do you put puppy pads down and how’s that working out?

If it’s as simple as having to change puppy pads every day (just as you’d have to sort litter out anyway) then I can’t see why you wouldn’t do that rather than kill her??

Sotired22 · 07/05/2023 09:32

@SBHon Yes tried that, she won’t wee on the puppy pad she just wees next to it on the floor. She sometimes wees in the living room and bedrooms as well but not daily. It’s the dining room that she does daily while we’re in bed usually and it runs and covers the length of the room. Sometimes it’s 2/3 times a day. I don’t want to ‘kill her’ at all but unless you’ve lived with this situation yourself it’s hard to understand how stressful it is. This has been going on for 7 years.
