Can anyone help me figure out how old these kittens are?

They've ferals found in a potato box by a friend (quite a ways away, so hard for me to go see them in person).

Cats don't stay with their mother till university, you know. They have to be separated before puberty, lest they mate with a parent at 2 or 3 months old

😂😂😂😂😂

The one with the stripes - and everybody knows that Badger loves mashed potatoes.

That makes sense 😁😁

Just out of interest, whats the difference between a barn cat and a house cat? My DD lives rurally, could do with cats as she gets lots of mice / rats but shes actually allergic so cant have them in the house.

Barn cats live outdoors, generally not allowed in the house, fed outside etc

Soontobe60 · 29/04/2023 17:53

What about in winter???

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 29/04/2023 17:57

Still in the barn.

Spareincoming · 29/04/2023 18:00

@Soontobe60 Ours live in the straw shed in between the bales for shelter for the winter. MIL increases their daily rations but has never had one want to move into the house.
No matter how much she’d like the all black one - known as Pepper - to move in, she has declined the offer for 3 winters now!

Ohow · 29/04/2023 18:13

I guess I was just thinking OP could take the mum too. I'm a soft touch 😂

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 29/04/2023 18:17

Maybe Pepper will move in when she’s an old lady and graciously accept hand fed ham.

Tygertiger · 29/04/2023 18:19

Those are beautiful kittens. And my own anecdata is that the tortie one (which will 99% likely be female of course) will be a ruthless mouser. All mine that colour have been (I fully accept this is not a scientific supposition!)

Spareincoming · 29/04/2023 18:28

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy From her last vet visit she’ll be living to a ripe old age and MIL will be spending her pension on finest ham and chicken slices for ever more!
MIL is “not a cat person” and “Only likes
the farm cats because they earn their keep” but Pepper cat gets spoilt and has sliced meat treats often, don’t get me wrong, the other 4 get well fed and all are at the vets yearly for their jabs etc but Pepper is the favourite Of the none cat-person.

@Tygertiger my naughty-torty is the absolute exception to the ruthless tortoiseshell rule and is frightened of mice. The most she will hunt is the occasional ladybird.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 29/04/2023 18:35

Yep she sounds like a non-cat person. You can always tell by the ham bought especially for the cat.

Even when I wasn’t eating pork the cat had ham for her daily treat.

ladymalfoy45 · 29/04/2023 18:40

My Maris Piper spuds maybe guarded by cats!? I love this!

Spareincoming · 29/04/2023 18:43

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy Its like the cheese she buys only for the sheepdogs… the sheepdogs who lived in the porch when DP was a child and weren’t allowed in the house unless they were seriously ill or injured but the current dogs and a good few before have their own sofa in the front room and beds at either side of the range cooker…

LadyLolaRuben · 29/04/2023 18:53

Theyre about 3 weeks old

If they haven't opened their eyes yet they are less than a couple of days old.
