Can’t sleep as my cat is missing

Long time lurker on this page, I can’t sleep or concentrate as my little cat went missing tonight. She’s an outdoor cat during the daytime but is a creature of habit and always comes home early evening and sleeps with us on the bed overnight. However tonight she didn’t come home for the first time ever and I’m sick with worry.

We live in a very quiet rural area with lots of wildlife in and around our garden including wild boar and I’m terrified she has been attacked or injured and is lying somewhere in pain (or worse). I’ve been round and round the garden all night calling her and shaking her food but nothing at all which is very unlike her.

I’m so scared she won’t come home, and my son is going to be absolutely distraught as she’s his best friend, if anyone has any happy stories of cats going missing then coming home, I’d be delighted to hear them right now, thanks in advance!

Here we are! Please meet Squeak, our furry little stop-out😻 she has been peacefully sleeping on the sofa since she came in, not an ounce of remorse! Thank you all so much again!

Look at Tractive collars. My boy did this once and now I have a tracker on him at all times

eurochick · 29/04/2023 08:57

I love a happy ending.

(And I can't believe you have a cat that actually uses a cat bed rather than sleeping anywhere and everywhere else!)

MouseKeys · 29/04/2023 09:05

Lol she's the only cat I've ever had who loves her cat bed, she's obsessed with it! Although to be fair, it does look pretty cosy, if they made a human sized version, I'd definitely curl up in it with a good book @eurochick 🤣

@Sunflowersinthewind oh thank you, I will!

That's so lovely, beautiful little cat and glad you've got her home.

Our cat just came home, completely healthy and fed, NINE days after leaving. He'd previously been away for 2-3 days at a time. I was certain he was dead. It's very normal for cats to disappear and they usually return. I'd just like to know what they do all that time!

Snozzlemaid · 29/04/2023 09:09

So glad she's back. Mine did exactly the same when 1 year old.
I too slept on the sofa with the back door open and she casually sauntered in at 5am, had a wash then went to sleep.
It's so worrying when they do it.
Hopefully she won't do it again.

Squeak is so pretty. I do love a puss with orange patches.

Mine have always slept soundly after a night on the tiles while I prop my eyelids open from lack of sleep and too much worrying, and have to get on with the day. And I don’t mind a bit because I am so happy they are home safely.

RosesAndHellebores · 29/04/2023 12:02

Her colouring is very unusual and she's gorgeous. One of my little rescues is similar

HonorHiding · 29/04/2023 14:09

So pleased she’s back. I posted an almost identical thread only a week or so ago, and my little guy was away for 36 hours, stuck (as it turned out) in my neighbour’s shed. It felt like an eternity.

crazecatlady2 · 29/04/2023 14:25

@ilovesooty How do you know my cat?

@ilovesooty How do you know my cat?

Confused now.

Gettingbysomehow · 29/04/2023 15:38

Thank God she's home.

helpfulperson · 29/04/2023 16:43

It's getting warmer weather. Mine certainly stays out later at this time of year. First time he stayed out until 6am I panicked but I'm used to it now.

OMG, OMG, she’s home! I slept on the sofa so I could hear her if she came back (we don’t have a cat flap so one of us has to let her in ) and at 4.30 I heard a tiny miaow outside and there she was! She’s just eaten a huge bowl of wet food and seems to be fine, thank you so much to everyone for your good wishes and kind words, I am so grateful to you all!

So pleased she's home op. She's gorgeous.

MouseKeys · 30/04/2023 20:33

Squeak and I thank you all for your kind words and thoughts, she sends purrs and headrubs to all, especially those with cats who are also furry stopouts😻

Glad she's come home safe and sound! It's always worrying the first time!
My cat is a regular stop out, he's a curious but overall social cat who everyone nearby knows and stops to say hello to him! He gets locked in houses, cars, sheds on the regular but usually for 2-3 days is the longest he's gone.

3 weeks ago he was gone for 8 days and non of the nearby houses he usually resides at (Sun spots) had seen him! I was sure he was actually dead this time.
8 days later I got a text to say a local family had just come back off holiday and found him locked in their garage!
A good bowl of food and water and I collected him fearing he was going to be in a bad way but nope! Just carried on about his life like it never happened!

He has however stayed a lot closer to home since, and is only ever a minute away now 🤣

Oopsiedaisyy · 03/05/2023 13:23

My calico girl does this too, if she's had food and then out on a nice evening she thinks its entirely reasonable to bowl up 1 or 2 am... Even later once in a while. My other cat has a tracker, which i do recommend but my girl is too skittish to handle wearing a collar and being manhandled
