Cat keeps pooping on bed or sofa

He had a huge fight with the other cat last week. They tolerate each other, and there’s occasionally a bit of “dabby paws” but last week was a full on scrap. Since then, he has pooped on our bed or the sofa nearly every day. Occasionally pees as well but usually just a giant turd.

DCat is male, 14, and on a special urinary diet and medication for struvite crystals in his bladder, plus blood pressure medication. The other cat is female and aged 3. They don’t love each other but will sit together.

It seems to be stress that is causing it, but tonight they were sitting happily next to each other on the unpeed on sofa when DCat just got up and casually came into our bedroom and shat on the bed.

I’m going to take him to the vet, but any other suggestions to make things better would be gratefully received. We have a big move (overseas) coming up in a couple of months and I don’t want this to finish him off.

Do they use a litter tray? If so how many trays do you have? Have you changed litter recently? My female cat needs her own tray, otherwise she finds somewhere soft to do her business. Same if we use anything other than wood chip litter, other brands must be hard on her paws.

We have three litter trays in different bathrooms, one has a different type of litter. He’s using the litter tray to pee

I think that maybe look at the litter trays. He may prefer one with a lid to feel safer from an attack, - or one without a lid, so he can see her coming. Perhaps a softer cat litter may also encourage him back to the litter box.

We had a covered litter tray but he was too dim to understand what it is for (in fact neither of them used it). We also have a Modkat but he can no longer get into that. So we have two other “ordinary” trays with different litter. I love him so much (he’s asleep on my pillow right now), I want to get through this.

It sounds stress-related.

Can you separate them for at least part of the time? Give them their own space with their own food, beds etc.

I think you need to break the pattern by keeping him out of the bedrooms and don’t let him have unsupervised access to the settees , if he can’t get to them to go then he will have to go elsewhere , hopefully the litter tray .
