Cat carriers for large cats

Can anyone recommend a good carrier for a big cat?

My old plastic carrier is pretty heavy & if possible I would like a bag style carrier that is fairly lightweight & I can carry with a shoulder strap, but any recommendations for fat cat carriers welcomed.

My lad is around 6kg and I use one like this with him. It’s great because I can carry it in my shoulder and the pockets are handy for car keys and vaccination records etc. He’s pretty content in it…

Soft and hard carriers have gained popularity as cat transport solutions. Soft carriers, characterized by their lightweight and ease of portability, stand out

I believe the cats protection recommend those wire ones with the top opening hatch. I read this in an article about someone breaking down on a motorway and taking the cat out in its plastic carrier which split top from bottom and the cat escaped. cats protection were involved in trapping it.

If you've ever had a cat have an accident on the way to or from the vets you wouldn't consider a soft carrier!

I've switched to a Metalcote cage type carrier for security and because they have the biggest top opening for my tricky cat.

I've got a Curver picnic hamper style one. It's very robust. Though I did discover my tiny cat can get out of the small petting hatch. Swiftly fixed with a cable tie.

I got this from Amazon for my chonk, he was too squished in to his old one. He’s much happier that he can see out properly. They come in different sizes and colours, top opening, and have a tray inside in case of accidents. I put an old towel in there in case of accidents as he doesn’t travel well. Google MDC cat carrier.

This is all very well, but doesn't address the question of how one gets the large cat into the carrier in the first place Grin

My Metalcote one is the same design. It is so much easier to get a reluctant cat in, and spacious too.
